ICC rules only apply to Russia but not to Israel 🤡

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Because America doesn't have principles it has investments and owners.

[-] LeFantome@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago

If you drop the because, I agree.

America is not a signatory to the ICC ( wonder why ). They are not the reason that Putin was charged or why Brazil would arrest him.

[-] Squizzy@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

They came out against the ridiculousness of havimg a warrant for Netanyahu.

[-] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 18 points 1 day ago

Awesome. Looking forward to the day when Netanyahu and Gallant also get the treatment. Come on ICC, put out the warrants!

[-] LeFantome@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

They are unlikely to. Putin was charged with abducting children, not just killing people. And his invasion was unprovoked. And…..politics.

[-] mindaika@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

Same reason I didn’t go too

[-] FatherGascown@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Fucker should just die alone in a hole.

[-] hakunawazo@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

You mean like that

[-] jaggedrobotpubes@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago

Maybe Biden can invite him to come talk in the states like he did with his good friend Netanyahu.

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world -5 points 1 day ago

I'm curious how this makes sense to you.

[-] Maalus@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Both have ICC warrants out for them for crimes against humanity. Only one spoke to congress, why not invite the other?

[-] Kbobabob@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

I didn't think Bibi actually had a warrant. I know they filled for one but I never saw it was issued. I can't find anything saying that it was issued or when.

Here's one form a month ago asking whether they would issue a warrant or not.

[-] AAA@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

You are correct. The ICC warrant for Netanyahu needs yet to be approved by an ICC judge. For now it's only a warrant request.

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

US has a history of not caring what the ICC thinks though. Remember the Hague Invasion Act?

[-] barsquid@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

I assume that is their point.

[-] DevOops@lemmy.eco.br 26 points 2 days ago

Hey Putin, COME TO BRAZIL!

[-] LeFantome@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago

You just need his plane to make an “emergency landing” while on the way to somewhere else.

You would probably just nab a body double though. I doubt he leaves the country anymore ( except maybe for China ).

[-] kokesh@lemmy.world 38 points 2 days ago

He can stay in his sinking shithole .

[-] cybermass@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 days ago

Brasil would have arrested him? Aren't they in BRICS?

[-] cygnus@lemmy.ca 52 points 2 days ago

As I feel the need to say every time it's mentioned, BRICS is made-up nonsense fabricated by Goldman Sachs to sell third-rate equities. Think about the relationship between the countries of "BRICS" and ask yourself if that sounds like an actual alliance.

[-] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 24 points 2 days ago

It has become a diplomatic talking shop similar to the G7. There has been pushes from some member states to make it more, including creating alternate financial systems, but it has been slow growing.

[-] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Russia got all pissy with Kazakhstan just this week as a result of them not joining the BRICS

[-] bobs_monkey@lemm.ee 16 points 2 days ago

Nothing like fomenting trust in a global financial transaction system by threatening potential user nations.

Turtalous growth because of the so many differences in political, economical, ideological between the participating countries which results in shitload of epic proportions

[-] RestrictedAccount@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

People care about the G7 because they have power and they sometimes agree on important things.

Neither of those are true of the “BRICS”.

[-] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 6 points 1 day ago

China, India, and Brazil are all large countries with large economies, but I agree they don't have a lot to agree on.

[-] mamotromico@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 day ago

Sorry to say but “BRICS” is far from “made up nonsense” here in Brazil. There’s plenty of export and some industries that got a boost thanks to it, it’s a very real economic block. I don’t know why you would think that it is not real, especially now that we are setting up a payment system to avoid the dollar usage.

Oh really? Let's take China, the biggest economy in "BRICS". Here is the history of Brazil's trade to China. It has of course grown (probably mostly soybeans). You might think that growth is thanks to BRICS.

But wait, what's this? Canada's trade with China has grown even more? Is it now BRICCS?

I don’t know why you would think that it is not real, especially now that we are setting up a payment system to avoid the dollar usage.

This is nowhere near implementation. Putin proposing something doesn't immediately make it real. It also assumes great stupidity on the part of China and India to tether themselves economically to the sinking ship that is Russia. India in particular is exploiting Russian economic weakness at every opportunity.

[-] gwilikers@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 days ago

This is intreresting. What is the connection between GS and BRICs? How does it help them sell equities?

[-] eskimofry@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

GS diversifying and playing both sides? Just a hunch. G7 has the west.. whereas one could argue that the BRICS might evolve into an eastern bloc.

[-] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Doesn't seem that way when Lula proposes Putin's peace plan that only BRICS countries think is fair.

[-] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

TFW you realize countries outside NATO also have rule of law.

[-] deus@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

That doesn't mean much. Iran and Saudi Arabia also are in it and they hate each other.

[-] abysmalpoptart@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I thought it was India and South Africa, not Iran and Saudi Arabia

[-] deus@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

It was, indeed. The group has grown a lot since then but the original name has stuck.

[-] abysmalpoptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Ah, wasn't aware, thanks!

[-] Dainterhawk999@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

A lot more countries are being invitied to be a member of the intra fighting group known as BRICS.

Putin bruh is forcing other countries by implementing sanctions in ways such as by not accepting bananas and apples... 🍌🍌🍌🍎🍎🍎

[-] abysmalpoptart@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

That's interesting, guess i wasn't tracking that closely enough. Thank you!

[-] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 5 points 2 days ago

Yes and yes. What's confusing you here?

[-] MehBlah@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

The ICC sent pooty poot to his room.

[-] YeetPics@mander.xyz -1 points 1 day ago

Why is he so scared of Brazil?

Have you not seen the videos that come out of there?
