Quite common point of the post is to convey some information.

[-] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

Information intended ro evoke an emotional response!

[-] LambdaRX@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 month ago

What emotion did you hope to evoke, by posting this?

[-] db2@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

OP uses irritation! It's super effective!

First time here, huh?

[-] Sergio@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 month ago

All cognition has an emotional component, so you have to be more specific. Once you get more specific, then you'll see that music and art communities are different.

Is the other 1% to evoke an electrical response?

[-] Greg@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 month ago

This is true on algorithmic platforms that reward "engagement" of any kind. I didn't get that sense from pre 2010 Facebook or Twitter and I don't get that sense on fediverse platforms.

OH MY GOD THIS PISSES ME OFF SOOOOO MUCH

[-] infinite_ass@leminal.space 7 points 1 month ago

(The same could be said of most songs, poetry, fiction.)

Someday we will invent a way to convey emotions without that intermediate step. That will be impressive.

What makes you think a post has only one point? It's a curious notion, but I would imagine the vast majority of posters have multiple reasons for sharing what they share.

Obviously people are often posting things they think others might care about, but that doesn't tell us anything about anything at all.

[-] infinite_ass@leminal.space -1 points 1 month ago

Why did you lead with a question just there? Yes, for the emotion. It's like you can't help it.

[-] Pandemanium@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

Your premise is flawed. A question doesn't beg an emotion, it begs a response. The response could be completely devoid of emotion.

[-] infinite_ass@leminal.space -1 points 1 month ago

Sorry cybertron, begging is totally an evocation of emotion. That's its power. That's why you do it.

Describe in single words only the good things that come into your mind about your mother.

[-] hihi24522@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe,

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion

I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark, near the Tannhauser gate

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain…

Time… to die…

I post to correct the record and/or to be countered with better quality information to change my mind.

Most of the time I guess idiots spazzing or argueing shot based on feels or shills lol

But level of discourse here is far superior to reddit on pound per pound basis... We need more depth and breadth tho
