personally surprised that Tesla beats Jeep, but I'm uploading it mostly because it says not to.

You wouldn’t upload a car… chart, would you?

I love how those ads did more to promot piracy among normies than most anything else.

I wasn’t aware of the fact that Suzuki outsells Mazda. How long has that been happening?

[-] odium@programming.dev 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

This is probably why. https://www.statista.com/statistics/1090709/india-car-sales-volume-by-oem/

Same source as OP. 1.6 out of 2 million of Suzuki sales come from dominating the market in a single country.

[-] falidorn@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Whoa. That is definitely market dominance.

[-] _thisdot@infosec.pub 3 points 1 month ago

Suzuki is the best selling car brand in India

[-] scytale@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

It’s a popular brand in Asia. Mitsubishi as well.

I was about to be all like Wtf where's Subaru but then I found their estimated units sold for 2024, womp womp lol

[-] BigPotato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Wait, did I read that right? Less than 1,000 units?

[-] odium@programming.dev 5 points 1 month ago

I see 976,000 units sold 2024

[-] BigPotato@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Oh man, I mean, that's not good but I was like "FUCK that's low."

[-] vivavideri@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Dude every other freakin car out here is a subaru so it's funny to me that they don't sell like hotcakes elsewhere

[-] BigPotato@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

A day doesn't go by that I don't see at least two or three gangs of Subarus driving down the road.

But, then again, I also see a few different Cybertrucks on the regular so my market is probably an odd one.

[-] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

nope, less than 1,000,000 units.

Mercedes bar is longer then BMW despite having smaller value. Did they try to visually balance the smaller width? How do you fuck up a bar graph?

[-] Habahnow@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago

I think that's what the dotted line is for, the scale changed so it's easier to see the scale of each of the brands on the lower half, compared to each other.

[-] MuddyGeek@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Where is General Motors? I don't think this chart is super accurate.

[-] toddestan@lemm.ee 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Chevrolet is in the list. Looks like it's by brand, hence the reason that Audi is also broken out from Volkswagon.

[-] xploit@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Broken down to it's smaller brands for some reason... Like Audi is a VW...same as Porsche, Seat, Skoda, Lamborghini aaand whatever else they profuce

[-] ShepherdPie@midwest.social 5 points 1 month ago

Why wouldn't you break it down into brands like this?

[-] xploit@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Well personally like seeing the full picture. Like this for example, which would obviously look different with worldwide sales included, but you can find appropriate individual brands and also how they perform as a group manufacturer. https://www.best-selling-cars.com/europe/2024-half-year-europe-best-selling-car-manufacturers-and-brands/

Why is Jeep listed as an American brand when they're owned by a company from the Netherlands?

[-] Visstix@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Huh interesting. Apparently it's a french-italian-american company with it's hq in the netherlands for tax benefits I'm guessing. So.. I guess the flag sorta checks out?

[-] cabbage@piefed.social 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yeah, the flags mean very little. Ford of Europe, founded in Ireland and head-quartered in Germany, probably makes up a significant chunk of Ford sales as well. They don't produce the same cars at all though - German Fords are very much not American cars.

Which might be why Ford has stood the test of time so much better than GM.

[-] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

because we are talking about the brand not the company. the brand is certainly American.

[-] ConstantPain@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago
[-] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

well, if this infographic is to be believed sales numbers less than 1.3 million, just like Caddilac, Buick, GMC, Dodge, Acura, Lexus...

[-] brlemworld@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

Why surprised? Tesla Model Y is the best selling vehicle in the world.

[-] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

probably my own bias only because I live in a part of the world that a Tesla is nearly never seen and every other vehicle that drives by my hosue is a Jeep. Thanks for helping me recognize.
