I’ve had 3 days of eating very too many desserts. No regrets.

[-] just_kitten@aussie.zone 9 points 5 hours ago

Gee I hope the fires don't actually reach Ararat and Stawell, that would be awful.

It's supposedly a warm night out here where I am but compared to last night in the hotbox I'm positively loving it. Lovely balmy breeze. Just nothing but the sound of insects chirping and the wind through the trees, no humans anywhere near, no lights, no electricity (though maybe annoyingly for trying to break bad habits, some phone reception...)

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

The fact that Ararat, Stawell and Hamilton were all on watch and act today really hit home the size of the fire front ..

Sorry, I had some dairy

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

What did you eat? Poor Mickey.

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 5 hours ago

Half a chocolate truffle cake from Woolies and now I'm farting like a trooper.

Lol nah the cool change came with the winds ha

[-] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

Feels like someone's turned on a gigantic leaf blower. Mini tornados of leaves whirling up and down my street.

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 5 hours ago

It was so neat! I was on the balcony and felt the ever so slightest cool breeze and was like "oooo!". Then AWHWHOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSHSHHSHS the winds came rushing up the alley. I heard things on people's balconies blow over. So very neat!!

[-] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 6 points 5 hours ago

Here comes the change!

[-] tone212_@aussie.zone 5 points 5 hours ago

20% PH surcharge for dinner is criminal. Lucky the food was really good, and I was sitting outside as the cool change hit.

Butcher’s diner in CBD. I was expecting 15%, 20% was a shock. But they make a mean burger.

[-] neurospice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 5 hours ago

RIP air quality :/

Time to close the windows.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

Meanwhile I've only just opened my windows

I'll take my chances with the toxic smog, thank you very much. It's 32° inside!

[-] neurospice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago

It’s 32° inside!

It's only 31.2°C here. Surprised your home gets hotter than mine!

[-] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 7 points 6 hours ago

Perfect time to go for a walk. Cool breeze just kicked in.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

The Stenchening: part 3It now seems to be coming out of the manhole in the laundry. Once I finish my washing, I'm gonna evacuate the room and try to tape the door shut or something (it doesn't stay closed and I can't seem to fix it)

I feel like I'm trying to cordon off a bloody disease in Disneyland at this point

🙃

[-] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 5 points 5 hours ago

That does sound like something's died in the roof cavity. I'd postpone investigating until daylight - and preferably get a professional to deal with it. So many different rooms affected.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

I don't think there's much for me to investigate. Pretty sure it's a landlord problem now

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 6 points 6 hours ago

So I think the time has come to get into BBL. I have adopted the Melbourne stars because... Melbourne, stars, and green. And they are playing right this minute.

BBL fans am I going to regret this adoption? A cricket team is not just for Christmas, I know...

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 9 points 6 hours ago

Omg lol showing my millenial-ness - I read that as short for Brazilian Butt Lift 😂

A BBL isn't just for Christmas, it's for life

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 5 points 6 hours ago

Hahahaha

After all the Christmas food and wine I need many lifts but I will stick to cricket for now

[-] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 6 hours ago

🤣🤣🤣

[-] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

I thought the same thing, lol

[-] Nath@aussie.zone 6 points 6 hours ago

I'm literally sitting in Optus Stadium, waiting for the BBL Scorchers v. Heat game to start. It's definitely a spectator game.

It feels like the final hours of a One Day match where you are chasing a run rate of 6-8 per over. All game. Games only go for about 3 hours total. A little longer than an AFL game.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

Love it when the Scorchers play at home coz it means we get 2 games. It's been an action packed day today.

[-] Nath@aussie.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

It was a fun game. We have family visiting from Brisbane and Canberra. Twelve of us all went together. Great family bonding.

[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago

Look they are travelling a bit shit lately but when you pick a team, you stick with them through the wins and the losses. That's what makes it exciting.

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago
[-] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

You've still got a few good players in there. Maxwell. Siddle. Stoinis.

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

As long as we beat Sydney tonight I will take it as a good sign

[-] imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

This may not have been the night to jump on board....

Made some Pad Thai for dinner....turned out great.... recipe called for garlic chives I used garlic shoots.

OMG they're garlicky as hell. I love garlic but wasn't ready.

RIP anyone that talks to me over the next 24 hours

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 13 points 8 hours ago

Ted is enjoying this warm weather by snoozing on the terrace. I am happy he feels comfy and safe enough to snooze outside. 🙂

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 5 hours ago

He looks happy. He’s probably mad about the diet but I can’t imagine how much his life has improved and how much better he probably feels

I saw a roach :(

Normal white sugar mixed with borax should be fine for baits yeah? I have icing sugar but it’s an unopened packet someone else could use.

[-] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago

Try not to worry too much about one. I find the occasional one here (generally in the kitchen) and we haven’t had an infestation

touch wood

[-] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 2 points 5 hours ago

I’ve actually seen at least three now and they were massive.

Mimic (1997)

I’ve put a few sugar and borax baits down where the cat can’t get to them and am going to have to clean anything that might attract them

[-] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 2 points 5 hours ago

The borax baits sound like a good idea, and relatively non-toxic. Good luck!

[-] StudChud@aussie.zone 4 points 6 hours ago

Too humid. Fkn rain is passing meee. I can't wait until this cool change hits, I keep wanting to go sleep but I won't be able to until it cools down.

Got a long train ride tomorrow I just can't miss lol

[-] TheWitchofThornbury@aussie.zone 5 points 6 hours ago

I've just watered my garden, AND my next door neighbour's garden (they're away for a week) so it will definitely rain. And hosed down my windows. I just don't know when the rain will come.

[-] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

take a cool shower

[-] Duenan@aussie.zone 7 points 8 hours ago

Mmmm more lamb for dinner with coleslaw.

Lamb!

[-] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 11 points 9 hours ago

Work is over for the day & I finally have two days to myself, yay! Time to start catching up on all the cleaning and gardening I need to do...

Christmas is nice, but it is a bit hard to fit everything in when you don't have any time off and I have fallen a bit behind on a few of those not completely vital chores.

[-] Baku@aussie.zone 7 points 9 hours ago

followup to smellSo I feel pretty sure it's probably something dead in the roof now. I called, but it doesn't qualify as urgent, so I have to call back tomorrow. Fucking lucky I haven't invited anyone over for tomorrow or NY.

Tbh the idea of showering in the dead animal room isn't actually what's getting me, I'm mostly worried about the smell transferring (even a little bit) to me or my clothes. I'm very very self conscious about smells and the idea of having to walk around smelling like the grim reaper honestly makes me wonder if a sponge bath in the kitchen sink would leave me better off

Now that I think about it, I've noticed a lot more flies around the place as well. I was actually gonna complain about that earlier, but I just assumed a few got in when I've had to leave the door open a few times recently to bring stuff in, etc and it was my own fault

One things sure, I don't really feel like making, or eating, dinner anymore. Oh well. At least the smell is contained to the bathroom, at least for now. There's no vents or ducts in any other rooms. Although the laundry has a manhole, and the laundry door doesn't stay closed, so if it starts to seep out of there, I'll have to tape the bloody door shut or something
