I'll be honest, I really couldn't care less if Broken Windows theory is correct or not. I don't think it'd even matter so much whether it was, provided our response to it was a kind and gentle one that actually tries to help people rather than disappear them.

Unfortunately, such an approach is one that cops are fundamentally incompatible with.

The sign needs to remove "broken windows" and then I'd be for it.

Cops cannot and will not fix anything and are a nuisance to have around. They are pests regardless of how they actually allegedly do their jobs. We need community and to put the money that could be saved into things which actually work like community support and more third spaces, not a constant surveillance force that is ready to pounce on us the moment we 'step out of line' of what some authoritarian dolt thinks is acceptable.

Beehaw's community for socialists, communists, anarchists, and non-authoritarian leftists (this means anti-capitalists) of all stripes. A place for all leftist and labor news and discussion, as long as you're nice about it.

Non-socialists are welcome to come to learn, though it's hard to get to in-depth discussions if the community is constantly fighting over the basics. We ask that non-socialists please be respectful and try not to turn this into a "left vs right" debate forum by asking leading questions or by trying to draw others into a fight.
