This is not the Russian government being paranoid of NATO, this is the Russian government trying to remind us population that the decadent west, where people have fun, is evil and they shouldn't want to be like the west. Don't enjoy life, be a good little slave for Putin.

It's all smoke and mirrors just to add another seed of "hate the west" so that Putin and his oligarch friends can stay in power. Wouldn't want people to get wrong ideas like actual democracy where people could make decisions that are good for them, now would we.

Why do they need DRM for a fucking news article

[-] tht@social.pwned.page 7 points 13 hours ago

Fuck DRM, fuck Widevine, I just compile my browser without them

[-] gregor@gregtech.eu 1 points 13 hours ago

I just disable it on my browsers, am too lazy to compile :3c

"Santa represents peace, and brings happiness to children. We could not tolerate that"

[-] spiritsong@lemmy.world 17 points 20 hours ago

This one became real dark when the Russians shot the Azerbaijani flight. This video was released days before that tragedy, no?

[-] Zombie@feddit.uk 135 points 1 day ago

How, as a Russian, do you watch the blowing up of a fictional children's joy bringer as a good thing?

[-] Delirioum@programming.dev 20 points 1 day ago

Not trying to justify this but neither the article or anyone here is picking up on the detail that Russians have their "own" Santa, that's the guy dressed in blue.

So they are shooting down the western Santa and their kids still get their presents from their own Santa.

Idiotic video still but it is not like they kill Christmas worldwide. Just for everyone else, as in typical fashion.

[-] sudneo@lemm.ee 6 points 23 hours ago

"Father frost" is actually the "santa" version of many post-soviet countries, including Ukraine.

[-] Delirioum@programming.dev 1 points 17 hours ago

Yes, you are actually right about that and I missed that detail.

[-] SquiffSquiff@lemmy.world 4 points 23 hours ago

I'm missing where Russian Santa's presents are shown, he mostly seems to be involved in surprise pyrotechnics

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Have you looked at our caps recently? … The badges on our caps… have you looked at them… they’ve got skulls on them. … They’ve actually got little pictures of skulls on them.

A world where Comrade Krampus canes fascists would be pretty awesome.

Unfortunately, Putin has absolutely no interest in punishing the wicked.

Is Russia trying to be the bad guy? I've been told that everyone's the hero of Their Own story, but this is making me seriously doubt that. These stupid fucks equate NATO with Santa and then depicted themselves killing him. This is literally the most bad guy coded thing I've ever heard of my entire life. This is like the most blatantly evil children's cartoon villain thing they could have possibly done.

[-] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

"Santa" in the form you know it is a typical American holiday character. It made it's way into Russia as well, but it is now used as a symbol of the west like it used to be. What for you may seem as good is something they may see as evil. They have their own "Santa", as seen in the video, dressed more in the style of the Russian orthodox church.

Too bad though Russia doesn't know the difference between Santa in a sled and an Azerbaijani airliner.

[-] AnUnusualRelic@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

This is so completely idiotic that I don't even understand the point of going through all the effort of making it.

Who's going to cheer to it? Or is it just so that we can share it and find it stupid ?

[-] SquiffSquiff@lemmy.world 56 points 1 day ago

Given the recent Azerbaijan airlines disaster this really is cartoon level evil.

[-] lurklurk@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Perhaps it was just a bird strike

[-] takeda@lemm.ee 40 points 1 day ago

Ah, so that's how they shot that Azerbaijani passenger plane. They should put the Krokodil down.

[-] DankOfAmerica@reddthat.com 33 points 1 day ago

They did a cartoon because they cant shoot down a real NATO plane. They cant even buy one and shoot that one down. Best they can do is an Azerbaijani airliner. Wow.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

That’s right up there with “Freedom Fries”. A weak and petty jab that nobody actually gives an F about other than the few people needing to compensate for their egos.

[-] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago
