737 truly is the cybertruck of planes. How it hasn't been pulled completely is beyond me.

There are more delivered 737's than any other commercial aircraft, ever.

TBF 737 and 737-NG are quite safe (look at page 10 here and consider that 737s make up a pluarlity of commercial aircraft), crashes like this one can happen with pretty much any aircraft type. 737 MAX is another story, obviously corners were cut in the name of profits at the well-known cost of human lives. (in short, fuck Boeing, not only for 737-MAX but also for their weapons manufacturing)

I think you're thinking of the 787.

[-] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 6 days ago

You are right.

I was getting worried because I hadn't heard of any boeing crashes in the last few months

At this point 737s should just be banned from flight. How many more people have to die (including whistle-blowers) for us to get Boeing leadership accountable.

I guess the only hope is another Mangionni like event.

After 15 and a half years in service, you have to stop blaming the manufacturer.

Obviously we don’t know yet if there was anything else wrong with the plane apart from the landing gear but aren’t pilots trained to land a plane without landing gear in case the situation arises?

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 7 points 6 days ago

It seems to have touched down with no significant damage to the fuselage until it hit the embankment. The pilots did manage to bring it down at least somewhat softly and on a runway, they just couldn't get it stopped on time

At least 85 people have been confirmed dead so far, according to the local fire department. Two people, both crew members, were pulled alive from the crash site however rescuers have warned there is little hope of finding further survivors.

thats going to be 170+ dead when its over

[-] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 6 points 6 days ago

I'm more impressed that a plane crash of this magnitude has ANY survivors.

I saw video of it on X and it's as bad as it reads

They said they pulled two crew out alive. My guess is flight attendants in the back. I hope they pull through.

omg its just horrifying.

its like watching one of the test videos of planes being crashed into a brick wall on purpose.

Yeah looks like the thrust reversers were on so they tried to slow down but it wasn't enough to matter
