Just a question: What has this post to do with "Socialism"?
There are many others (beehaw.org/post/17824016, for example) like this. I don't question most of their content or the source, but they just don't seem to fit into this community. This has nothing to do with the topic imo. What to I get wrong here?
Socialism is a series of political movements on top of being an economic theory and our platforms cover more than just said theory. For example, socialists have been in the ring for Palestine since well before October 7th and want to hold the assholes in power accountable for facilitating this atrocity (and past atrocities); as such, it is important to pay attention to who is responsible and why so that when they try to bullshit their way out of accountability, it doesn't work.
As for your other link there, that's just part of a larger series of paying close attention to the behavior and biases of corporate media outlets, which has been a time-honored socialist tradition that even predates when Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky first published Manufacturing Consent in 1988. Such media outlets have large amounts of influence over public opinion and frequently serve as reinforcement for the ideology and politics of the bourgeoisie, so if they're capitulating to US government officials and their nonsense (or are being intimidated into being even less critical of them than they already are), then that is something socialists should pay attention to (because it can, has been, and will continue to be weaponized against us).
Basically, this beehive is a news feed for stuff that would be of interest to socialists and our political goals from preferably leftist news sources, though theory discussion is also welcome (I occasionally post reading lists as well).
Herman&Chomsky provide some good insights, but there are major shortcomings and points where they are outright false. Among others, it is often cited by anti-democratic propagandists. China uses this book, it's among the very view Western books that are not censored in China, there is even a Chinese translation. They use Chomsky&Herman to criticize democracy and human rights (China's criticism of capitalism is sort of a pretext).
Tankies and other communities use it as some sort of ultimate truth. This is rubbish.
Chomsky is even conveying pro-Russian, anti-Ukrainian viewpoints in the meantime (here is an older article, I am sure you know Chomsky's hypotheses).
Don't get me wrong, but sometimes I am wondering how many of those citing the book have really read it.
As someone already wrote in another thread, the moderation in this community seems to follow personal preferences rather than justifyable rules.
Well to be blunt, based on the interactions with you thus far, I don't think that this comm is what you're looking for and that you're not going to be a good fit for what we're going for here, so I would recommend that you find a different one to participate in.
Edit: since you decided to be cringe instead of amicably taking the suggestion, I'm just going to ban you.

What happens here?
Eh, they just posted (and then immediately reposted after it was removed) a mildly antagonistic comment. Like I said, the user in question seems like they want a comm that serves a different purpose than what we're going for, then they came back next day in a separate thread to continue derailing/arguing about it instead of just making peace with the fact that the comm isn't going to be what they want and looking elsewhere. It's just annoying gray area behavior that's taking focus away from the actual content. I would heavily encourage users not to do stuff like that. I don't think that it makes for a good experience to click on an interesting thread expecting discussion/jokes/memes relevant to the topic and all the comments are just that shit instead.
I don't know what they have posted, but the way this comm is being moderated has been questioned by other people, too. There's no reason to ban someone for having a different opinion (let alone with your sentence which is offensive). As others have already said, this serves more the individual and subjective worldview than any comprehensible set of rules.
Thanks for this. I'm aware of the entire theory and the movements they refer to it (justified and unjustified :-)) It's a very broad interpretation for a comm imho, but it's fine. Thanks again.
It's all good.
Socialism
Beehaw's community for socialists, communists, anarchists, and non-authoritarian leftists (this means anti-capitalists) of all stripes. A place for all leftist and labor news and discussion, as long as you're nice about it.
Non-socialists are welcome to come to learn, though it's hard to get to in-depth discussions if the community is constantly fighting over the basics. We ask that non-socialists please be respectful and try not to turn this into a "left vs right" debate forum by asking leading questions or by trying to draw others into a fight.
