If you learn you are the heir to a distant, secluded empire and the local trusted family advisor says, "don't worry we'll make a cult of personality for you." Do you accept or decline? Why or why not?

Yes because society is evil and I'm sure I can be a positive influence. Don't worry, unlike every past dictator, I'll do different this time. Trust me! 😉

Don't you need to have a personality for that?

I would definitely end up like Brian, so fuck no thank you.

In the meantime, I've been told it's a good idea to look on the bright side of life.

He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy!

There was a 2023 cartoon about a daughter who inherits a town after her father dies. Turns out he was a cult leader and now everyone in town worships her.

I’m an idiot I had to look up what cult of personality even meant.

Which means I should be a shoe in for the job. I’ll take it. Let’s have some fun.

I don't like when strangers speak to me really so no

[-] cabron_offsets@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Fuck no, I prefer a quiet life.

I should have known I wouldn't be the only one to immediately think of Brian.

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

I don't appreciate the implication that I don't already.

So long as it's my fursona, the fictional company he/we run(s), and the fictional employees, then sure. Spreading the message of complete open access to knowledge and pirating when the product includes unreasonable things like DRM or something similarly unreasonable in my eyes would definitely be something I approve of being cult material. So long as we don't have any of the weird doomsday cult stuff, murder/harm innocent people, or have a kool-aide moment, I'd be fine with people remembering me as my fursona for as long as possible.

I wouldn't trust this scenario, but do have a complete inability to fly under any radar, so might be ok at being well known. Wouldn't enjoy it at all but already people remember me, notice me and as my youngest put it, I am persuasive. So it's hard to move unnoticed through the world, might be able to fill this role, if it's just a figurehead sort of thing. If it involves governing, no.

Sure, sounds fun.

Like I'd most definitely fuck something up, but I'd have a good time doing it.

Yes, because I know that I'll be different. I'll actually make the society better.

[-] DragonsInARoom@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Yes, because they would give me money

No absolutely not. It's really getting on one's nerves quickly, and also it's pointless and a waste of energy.

Yes. I would make all of my followers worship my cat. We would have rallys where my cat would sit on a podium and everytime he meows they all have to cheer. They will also make offering to him, and build statues of him. Anyone who says he isn't the cutest kitty ever gets the death penalty.

No, I'd probably be very insecure about that and have very bad impostor syndrome.
