I would just go to your local hardware store and walk the aisles.
You could fabricate something out of thermoplastic or metal, but I'd be concerned about it creating a crevice for mold to grow.

Like a splash guard? Honestly, I'd probably take a Tropicana juice jug and cut it to the size you want. A pot would probably be a better shape, but I would worry about it being food-safe plastic.
You’ve put me on the right track, these were the keywords I was looking for. I’m going to search for a 3/8” U-gap with a 1.5” or longer seal trim “flap”, instead of “bulb”, and see what I can find.
No problem. You reminded me that I should sub to !whatisthisthing@lemmy.world as I missed this from the other place.
Probably gonna need to get something 3d printed or buy your dog a bowl with this feature built in.
Some good ideas for what you asked for in this comment section, but have you thought about trying to solve it slightly differently? I have a similar problem and a diatomaceous earth bath mat has done a lot to absorb the slop pretty rapidly.
It’s a cool idea, I won’t deny it, especially just finding out about that kind of thing. But, the mixed reviews and the luxury price of it make me want to go with RV weather stripping instead.
The weather stripping I found, although 35 feet longer than I need for the project, has the right dimensions for it. (I need about a foot, with a 3/8” wide* channel and about 2” rise on the top flap.)
What about those things that snap onto paint cans so you can pour them without a mess?
If I can’t find something that snaps in, I’ll measure the circumference of the bowl and insert one of these bad boys split or cut to permit water to flow into the bowl. Is there a circular clamp* that pushes outward instead of clamping inward that I can insert in this?
Sounds like the water level is level with the rim exactly because of the underside of the lip where the water enters the bowl is the exact same height of the rim. Apart from extending the rim of the bowl higher you could also use the U seals I linked in the other post to extent the lip downwards if it can be clipped on at the opening from the reservoir meaning it will fill the bowl with less water. I think that’s how fluids and gravity works anyway…
