Idk how the fuck I can agree with a politician so much.

It just really sucks that he's pretty much the only one.

It's "funny" in a way that I never actually knew who he was prior to 2016, but once he ran for president I saw him and said "oh shit it's that guy!" I had seen him in countless documentaries where there was a segment on how the government interacted with the subject of the documentary and he was ALWAYS on the "right" side of the subject.

That's when I knew he'd never be allowed to be president.

I think I always had the feeling he'd be sandbagged by the "liberal media", but once I started hearing people trying to accuse him and "Bernie Bros" [1] of being racist/sexist around 2016, I had a really good idea of his chances at the presidency....

[1] It grates on me, much like the term "tech bros". Hey, maybe there are a few bad actors, even toxic people among his fans, just like any other group...but as a group? Meh, not buying that all. In fact, I'd say it's very much the opposite in my experience with those that like Bernie, not to mention what the man himself advocates. Also, it has this implication that every Bernie fan is male and white? What the fuck?

I think I always had the feeling he’d be sandbagged by the “liberal media”,

It's really crazy how so called "left wing" MSNBC treated him after he started polling well. They ran all these "Bernie loves Castro" stories and one chucklefuck who's name I'm forgetting basically said "if Bernie wins he's going to put people like me up against the wall." Invoking some imagery of firing squads...

After all that they kinda do deserve to be put up against the wall and at the very least have a gang of clowns throw pies at them and be shamed on national television lol

Generally because he says the opposite of both the Republicans and the Democrats. And he's usually right. Bernie provides a glimpse of what we could have if we had an actual progressive party instead of an economically conservative party and a fascist party.

Every time people fixate on age limits i think of how Bernie spent the last decade running circles around everyone in Congress on actual sensible good policies for Americans.

[-] Sanctus@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

Its not necessarily the age that matters but it can. Accountability matters far more than age restrictions.

Can I get an AMEN? He's a prime example of someone I think about when I hear a prejudice it is politically correct to hold - in fact, it's even fashionable to constantly espouse it - and that is ageism.

I also think of him when I think of the vapid discussions about "term limits".

people age at different rates, but age limits seem like an easy answer to the complicated problem of removing someone from office when they show signs of being unfit. People like when it's easy, but it doesn't solve the actual problem. Someone with early onset dementia or some other illness that means they can't effectively do their job is just as hard to remove. While preventing someone who'll stay sharp until they die at 90 from doing a job they're still capable of.

I wonder if there's a way to make it easier without making it too easy and able to be manipulated by bad actors.

When they work for you instead of for themselves.

[-] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 15 points 5 days ago

Bernie is the best.

Kudos! And: good grief, I wish the left/liberals had millions of Bernies. Thankfully a few have the nuts to wade in on this.

Far too many milquetoast liberals/leftists only talk identity politics and ignore all the labor/class issues...
