I've been pejoratively referred to as a "Doomer." I prefer the term realist because I don't have a fascination with doom but I take the realistic look at the world and all signs point to a very serious problem.

I'll take the doomer label, but not a happy doomer. It's like looking at a car wreck - I'm not interested in the gore, but wondering how it got to that point. A scientific curiosity I suppose. If anyone suggests I should be more positive or optimistic, they now have the burden to validate the claim, given the trends we see in every manner of collapse.

Everybody thinks they're a realist, no matter what they believe in

To tell which is which only takes their track record.

Yes, it's a denigrative term. Ok doomer is pretty much like ok boomer.

This is the place for discussing the potential collapse of modern civilization and the environment.

Collapse, in this context, refers to the significant loss of an established level or complexity towards a much simpler state. It can occur differently within many areas, orderly or chaotically, and be willing or unwilling. It does not necessarily imply human extinction or a singular, global event. Although, the longer the duration, the more it resembles a ‘decline’ instead of collapse.
