Best cure for religion is actually reading the damn books. It’s utter bullshit and anyone with a functioning brain can tell.
That's what I always tell people. I had 12 years of Catholic education. I'm convinced there is nothing in this world that could've made me less religious than all the stuff we read and studied.
Which book will make me stop believing in chaos magic?
Idunno, pulp fantasy novels? 🤷
Amen
Atheism is no more a religion than a lack of a Ferrari is a Ferrari. That's the best way I know of to explain the concept.
I can believe I haven't heard this before... This is great.
Even worse are the people who think evolution is a religion…
They are just religious people who believe that there is no evidence to evolution and its faith based like other religions !!
The theory of evolution proves that organisms which perceive fitness are more successful and more prolific than organisms which perceive truth. Thus, it is a scientific fact that the world we perceive is not a depiction of truth. I think religious people who believe reality is real are fools.
I remember being ignorant to religion. slowly noticing the holes and the bull-shittery of the doctrine with the more I learned about it. religions thrive off of ignorance.
I grew up religious and went to religious schools until college. We were tasked with proving the holy book was correct in highschool. Guess what part of this comment made me not religious. It wasn't college.
Yes, atheism is not a belief, it's a realisation. One day you realise that you don't believe, that you are simply not convinced. You don't decide to be an atheist, you don't belief in atheism, you simply can't make yourself belief something that you are not convinced of. It's not in your control, you haven't been provided with sufficient (or any) evidence and realise that the label of atheist accurately describes your state of mind.
You just described the subjective experience of joining every religion
The difference is that realising you lack belief because of absence of evidence is the product of sound reasoning.
Realising that you do believe in something because of an absence of evidence is not.
Oh, you mean like how I don't believe in an objective reality beyond my senses because of absence of evidence. And how believing in reality because you don't personally agree with the evidence against it is unsound.
Hard solipsism is self defeating. If you stand by your argument, you're arguing with someone in whose existence you don't belief. If you don't stand by it, you're agreeing that solipsism is useless and worse, pragmatism demands it be ignored. Go troll someone else.
Have you ever played Mass Effect? I really like it, and a big factor in that is the dialogue wheel. You can have long, personal discussions with fictional characters. Then again, it's not perfect, because you only have a set number of prewritten choices of what to say. I always wanted to have a holodeck like in Star Trek, so I could debate philosophy with Socrates. And when character.ai came out, that's the first thing I did.
I like arguing with people whose existence I don't believe in.
I don't want to join anyone's stupid fan club.
Hot take: atheism, in some of its acceptions, is a religion. Not all atheist are this way, but too many are simply with the belief that no god exists and that faithful people cannot be right and that what their doing is wrong.
The problem with that belief is that it's as intolerant and hateful as the most fanatical believers. And religion wars never have been a good thing.
too many are simply with the belief that no god exists and that faithful people cannot be right and that what their doing is wrong.
That’s not hateful or intolerant. Hateful and intolerant isn’t disagreeing with you or even vocalizing a belief that you’re wrong. It’s certainly not voicing that a religion is harming others (I.e. wrong).
Is a meme format. It was supposed to be funny?
