He doesn't pay his own legal bills though... He has reneged on paying for arbitration he forced hundreds of prior employees into after he didn't pay them the severance he agreed to. https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/twitter-stalling-hundreds-ex-workers-legal-cases-lawsuit-2023-07-03/

In short, he didn't pay his employees, he didn't pay his fees when they came to collect, and he won't pay anyone's legal bill either.

Hmm, sounds familiar. Isn’t there another guy who never pays anyone who works for him? Can’t quite remember his name, it’s on the tip of my tongue.

Press X to doubt

I’m glad we have two billionaires who have shattered the illusions we have collectively had that billionaires are somehow super intelligent proficient businessmen.

The idea of meritocracy in the United States is complete bullshit. No man is an island. No one gets anywhere without their family, community, and society.

Even you and me.

No one. Not even that one guy you know.

When I say that he is stupid I way too often get told that he must be super smart just look how rich he got. Like money is a quality of smart people. And on the same note I am treated as a fucking stupid moron cause I am poor, so I can't know things else I would make money. I hate this world!

Its a feature of the propaganda, it's a way to justify to the masses why they gotta work two jobs to eat every day and get to sleep safely. The most honest, hard working, and smartest people I know are just comfortable so long as they watch they spending. It's because you have to fuck over people to get that amount of wealth.

It’s also “see, these people that have an outrageously disproportionate share of resources deserve it”. The claim used to be that monarchy were blessed by a deity; now it’s that they are more intelligent and worked harder.

They forgot that Musk was born on 3rd base, acting like he hit a home run.

[-] blivet@artemis.camp 3 points 1 year ago

Exactly. While I don’t think he is stupid, the guy was born rich, so it’s hardly a surprise that he has a lot of money.

[-] RedditWanderer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Intelligence is one thing, spiraling into mental health issues is another. Musk is not the person he was a decade ago.

Like Kanye, an incredible artist in the past, and social media/ fame/ luxuries made it lose his mind. Musk has severe issues.

[-] IWantToFuckSpez@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

He has some form of megalomania

[-] Littleborat@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago

7 years ago or so I contemplated buying tsla stocks.

Me today ROFLs at this. Fuck this idiot.

[-] Wodge@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

For these billionaires, money is more of a measure of how many people they've fucked over to get there more than anything.

[-] ImplyingImplications@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago

Have you ever considered that maybe Musk is actually a billion times more smarter than you?

Most people couldn't lose $30 billion dollars of net worth in 1 year if they tried. That's the equivalent of being given total control of KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell and bankrupting all of them in 365 days with a handful of bad management decisions. Honestly, that takes some skill.

[-] JustZ@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

You mean to tell me I can't run a successful car company if the government doesn't build and maintain all the roads?

[-] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Damn, that's a good analogy

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Who is the other one? Surely not Donald Trump, he ain't no billionaire. He may claim to have that lifestyle but is in debt up to his eyeballs.

The only thing Trump and Musk have in common is their tendency to not pay people what they owe them. I wouldn't rely on Musk's promises to pay for anything at all.

[-] Bobbinapples@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

Mr. Submarine i'm assuming.

[-] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 50 points 1 year ago

Lol sure, just like Trump pays the legal bills of his arrested Magats

[-] Dran_Arcana@lemmy.world 45 points 1 year ago

Those couple of ex-twitter employees that got fired for tweeting how much musk sucked should apply for this, get denied, and then sue X for their legal fees.

[-] windie@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

That would be great

[-] JustZ@lemmy.world 42 points 1 year ago

What legal fees?

Being fired for extravocational speech isn't illegal, except for certain protected labor organizing activities.

I'm starting to think Elon has no clue what free speech means.

[-] ForgottenWorkshop@lemmy.world 24 points 1 year ago

I believe he believes it's 'the right to force people to listen to what you have to say, regardless of their will or desire to do so'.

[-] stevedidWHAT@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

They didn’t have that down in the mines of South Africa :/

[-] RGB3x3@lemmy.world 39 points 1 year ago

So say I'm an employee of Twitter. If I say that I value free speech, government regulation and trans people, then I'm mistreated by Musk, will he pay my legal fees against himself?

Doubt.

[-] MicroWave@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

The Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) had done research that showed hate and disinformation was "spreading like wildfire on the platform under Musk's ownership".

[-] Namstel@lemmy.one 13 points 1 year ago

I call bullshit.

[-] downpunxx@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago

Musk hasn't paid his own legal bills, his ex employees for their severance, or the rent for Twitter offices on multiple continents, his word is as good as Donald Trumps.

[-] blivet@artemis.camp 2 points 1 year ago

I don’t know anything about commercial real estate, but of all his egregious behavior, I’m amazed that he has gotten away with not paying Twitter’s rent for months. Why haven’t the property owners just locked him out?

[-] Yepthatsme@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

He’s just fishing for fascists. Openly mind you.

[-] mojo@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago

LOL the sad thing is people will believe this
