131

Hi, I've just been responding to feedback and implementing suggestions and release 141 is just that. Large new features are in-app release notes, customization for comment long-press actions, and community filters. Alongside a dozen smaller fixes, additions, and optimizations.

Added

  • Added hex input to colour pickers
  • Added setting to change comment long press action
  • Added option to hide nsfw in main feeds but not inside communities (note currently only applies to 'hide')
  • Added sign up button on sign in page
  • Added sticky sort (remembers changes to sort)
  • Added community filters (filters posts from communities whose name matches a filter)
  • Added setting to control notification time Interval (10S to 12H)
  • Added share and hide to comment swipe actions
  • Added release notes to app startup
  • Added setting to control release notes

Fixed

  • Fixed table markdown in some scenarios
  • Fixed the exit confirmation not showing when the left drawer was disabled
  • Fixed issue with jumping to parent comment being offset in comment navigator
  • Fixed draft comments loading the wrong comment while editing when you have multiple comments
  • Fixed 'View full post' modal not disappearing on click
  • Fixed theme setting not persisting
  • Some optimizations to how posts are laid out, scrolling should feel smoother
  • Small logo tweak

Thank you everyone for all of the support and suggestions, please keep them coming and we'll continue to make Connect the best app for browsing Lemmy!

Was afraid development might stop due to majority of users shifting to Sync when it was first released (I'm guilty too).

But I have since moved back to using Connect and I am glad to still see constant updates. Thanks for the good work!

I've moved back to connect. You have to pay for premium on sync in order to get push notifications. Also I think connect looks better but that's subjective.

I switch between them. Connect on phones, always, and on one specific tablet that's set up for guests to use. We call it the toilet tablet lol.

On my tablets, I usually go with sync for the two column view with cards.

But connect has better theming options, particularly with the new color picker that lets you set your own background colors. That's been my biggest complaint about sync for a while, that I can't get a good contrast between cards and background. Makes it hard on my old eyes.

I also was pretty hyped for Sync and had the thought that I'll leave Connect behind when it comes out but...

honestly, Connect is the best client so far. By a lot, and I have a feeling it will stay the best for a long time, especially if kuro is this active with the development. I mean, come on, the dude pushes hotfixes in hours(!) for somewhat critical bugs that get reported here. It's amazing and kinda inspiring :D

Wow, the app is fairly young and already feels a billion times better than the reddit app. It made the transition to Lemmy a lot more pleasant than I had expected. Thanks!

Thanks for the continued work, my preferred app for Lemmy

Thanks man! Great app! I really appreciate all the effort you put into it!

[-] SheeEttin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Awesome as usual.

I don't think we need the keep/discard prompt when exiting a comment any more, now that we have automatic drafts. In fact it's misleading, because "discard" still keeps the draft.

[-] kuro_neko@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Hi, that's a good point! I'll remove the prompt in an upcoming release.

Thanks for the update......just wondering why the theme colour chooser was changed, when it was already fully featured anyway...๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

[-] kuro_neko@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Hi, the new colour picker has a bit more control when choosing a colour and also let's you enter in hex codes to get the precise colour you're looking for.

[-] fisco@lemmy.ml -2 points 1 year ago

I have to admit it was easier before, & from what I can see one person posted it as a request, with no other comments other than your own...unless this has been a previous request?... I'm sure I'll get used to it.. Cheers for replying ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

[-] burgersc12@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

I like it. Seems others do too, based on the votes. Not like it got rid of anything, just added another option!

[-] fisco@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

Unless I'm missing something, I cant see the option for the previous way of choosing the theme colours....๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Hey I've been having issues with the app lagging and then crashing all of my apps after less than 5 minutes of scrolling.

[-] kuro_neko@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

This is on version 141? Just to narrow down the issue does turning off 'mark read on scroll', 'swipe gestures', or changing to a list view have any effect? Just saying those 3 as they have the largest impact on memory.

[-] jesterkun@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago

Changing list view seemed to help.

[-] kuro_neko@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Ok thank you, I'm not sure if you're on the beta but I pushed v142 last night which might help for non-list views.

[-] jesterkun@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks I'll try it out

[-] jesterkun@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago

Hello again. i joined the beta, and have been trying it out. I'm still crashing in Card View. I'll use list view, but try Card View each new version just to see. Thanks for your help.

[-] jesterkun@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Hey I did some testing.

Yes in 141. It happened with swipe gestures on and off (although a bit slower with gestures off), and I didn't have "Mark read on scroll" turned on at all.

I hope this helps.

Edit: I missed the list view note. I've been using card view. I'll check that next.

I think that's the best app with the ugliest icon... Sorry but I really don't like the new one. Old one was cool.

It's like a 90's theme.

[-] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 2 points 1 year ago

I'm noticing improved speed in images loading full-res. This is appreciated!

gladly updated. thank you man!

Fixed draft comments loading the wrong comment while editing when you have multiple comments

Incredible! My only rough edge so far.

[-] coffeejunky@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

I have this strange issue that I can't switch accounts. Had the same on the previous version of the app. Have been using this app for only a few days, so maybe I'm doing something wrong? I added multiple accounts (with different instances). When I click the 3 dots I get the list of accounts, but when I select one nothing happens. I'm always on the account added last to the app.

I'm running android 14 beta, so maybe it has something to do with that? Or do I just not understand how to switch accounts? Any help would be appreciated.

[-] coffeejunky@beehaw.org 1 points 1 year ago

If anyone has this same problem I found the issue. I logged in with my registered email adres not username. Apparently that doesn't work (other Lemmy apps don't seem to mind).

[-] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Looks like the messages at the bottom (Refreshed, Post hidden, Posted comment, Switched to _____ user) stay there forever until I down-swipe them. Maybe have them disappear after 10 seconds and/or when I enter a thread?

[-] MouseWithBeer@iusearchlinux.fyi 1 points 1 year ago

Thank you for the update!

Added setting to change comment long press action

Any chance for a "do nothing" option there? I only ever do it by accident and not being able to turn it off is my only big issue with the app.
