Damn, that looks really cool. So the "customization" aspect is pretty good?

[-] Carnelian@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Sooooooo good. You could spend hours just in the paint/decal creator, but even aside from that, the actual parts you choose have a huge impact on your gameplay.

The missions have a lot of variety, so, especially if you replay missions for the best rank, you can’t really rely on a single build for every mission. The game actively encourages you to experiment and try new things constantly.

Gamefeel is so on point. Fast zippy mechs with quick weapons make you feel like a speed demon. Heavy builds like OP pictured make you feel like the iron giant lol. Absolutely amazing game, they knocked it out of the park

That's been the central feature of this series for like 25 years - Battletech level customization, but fully visible in your mech's construction, and with Gundam/Macross style mech action and styling. And now they've added some Soulslike gameplay now that they've returned to the series after all that Elden Dark Blood Whatever.

Elden Dark Wolf Blood 🩸 yeah.. that ties it together nicely.

This is my toy tank :)

I've just unlocked tank legs but I'm still all-in on my reverse-leg and plasma setup. I just finished The Wall.

The next big boss fight after Wallclimber had me hard stuck for about 7 hours until I eventually built a plasma monster, 2x plasma cannons, 2x plasma mortars on heavy legs. I was really sleeping on the AOE DOT damage, those plasma cannons are better than I gave them credit for. Great for clearing trash mobs too, one shot and you're done. They carried me well on my 8 or so runs farming Wallclimber to get enough cash to get all the heavy armor parts I wanted.

The boss in question had a pulse shield that was ruining my day and after countless attempts of taking down the shield with the pulse rifle or sword and then doing fuck all damage afterward, I decided to just run plasma and deal mediocre damage to the shield and decent damage to the healthbar. It worked out fine. Plasma isn't my first go to weapon to break pulse shields but it does the job well enough, better than bullets.

Tl;dr everyone try the plasma rifles if you haven't

A Meefcake plasma build will demolish everything for chapters to come, until the chapter 4 boss comes and laughs at you

[-] ethanOS@infosec.pub 1 points 1 year ago

I really like how the game changes it up on you like that.

[-] lickmysword@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Yes don't sleep on them. I was until I watched a showcase video of builds.

I was already doing a plasma rifle, but the warnings about Balteus convinced me to do some tweaks to optimize the build before going into the End Of Chapter 1 mission. Inverse legs, lightweight arms, the starter head (it's better than the flat-head and it still fit, every other head either made overweight or over-energy). One plasma rifle, one sword, one plasma-mortar, the big volley-missile-mortar, and speed. I might not have been as tough as the full dual Meefcake, but I killed him with style, even finishing with the sword. I honestly couldn't tell if I died or he did in the final explosion, then the dust settled and I had one notch of health left.

Took about 2.5 hours of trying.

Holy shit that was fun. I've played Armored Core games, but only the early ones that didn't have Soulslike bosses like this. That was goddamned amazing.

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I have a tank Core, but not a tank tread Core. I'm using a modified Meefcake with the second, heavy double-jointed legs, letting me hop around the enemy while shrugging off bullets and bathing my enemies in plasma

Seriously, a standard Meefcake let me first-try Balteus after many fails with other builds

I haven't been looking into the meta at all, been enjoying farting around and experimenting solo, what's a Meefcake? Heavy biped with bazookas?

Edit: found the vid. The game came out two days ago how is there already so much content???

Anyhow, dual plasma I see. I tried rolling dual energy and hated it because of how rapid-clicking dual charge-weapons feels.

[-] ArchmageAzor@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I dunno if there is any rapid clicking with plasma rifles, since they have a very slow fire rate

[-] Broken_Monitor@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I cant show mine, but I gotta say I just unlocked the tetrapod legs last night my inner child is loving it. Those things were awesome in the old playstation days and they seem pretty fucking awesome still now. I wanna load it up with firing stance weapons and go ballistic

People that have played this – Are you enjoying it? Would it be okay for me to jump in and play this new one and not miss anything story wise, provided I've never played any of the others? Or should I be looking to at least look to learn the story so far with the other games before attempting to play this new one?

Thanks in advance!

[-] Strayce@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Story wise it's self contained. You might be on slightly better footing with the building mechanics if you've played another, but it's different enough that it's not required.

[-] Navarian@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Appreciate the info.

[-] Carnelian@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

This is my first one as well, I don’t feel like I’m missing anything

[-] ethanOS@infosec.pub 3 points 1 year ago

Nothing story related to the other ones has hampered me. Missions are all replayable, with full cutscenes where they are. If you want an excellent mech customization + arena + objectives in bite-size chunks with really great boss fights, you won't regret it. It works fully on the Steam Deck too, which is great for quick breaks from work.

I'd love to play this game, but having to play five other Armored Cores to understand the plot is a bit too much. Does the game include a plot summary at the very least?

[-] Professor_juicy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

This is simply not the case. Each generation of Armored Core games have a more or less independent story. There is Definitely some overlap but its not necessary to play all other games (much more that 5 games fyi). No plot summary and you will need to play the game 3 times to get all of the story. Like all fromsoftware games, the story is very fragmented. Im having an absolute blast with AC6. Id say try it out friend.
