Unfortunatelly, drive letters are reminants from the DOS and early Windows days (anything that isn't NT 6.2 kernel based or above, has to have drive letters), so they have to stay for backwards compatibility.

Actually, up until Windows 8, drive letters were required for booting as well (which can be seen in the safe mode boot screen). Windows 8 and above doesn't require them though (can be seen in safe mode with debugging enabled), but they are there and will stay there for a very, very long time. Windows can't just part ways with them, there are just way too many things tied to them... legacy stuff, but legacy stuff that everyone still uses. Like try mounting a network drive without a drive letter, lol ๐Ÿ˜‚... or anything for that matter without a letter, you can't. It's how Windows works. It's so deep into the kernel, that there is no way to remove it without breaking stuff left and right.

Well, first the Earth cooled, and then the dinosaurs came, but they were too big and fat, so they all died and got turned into oil, and then the arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benz. And then Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes.

No, it actually measures vehicles if they're short enough to pass. My guess would be a IR receiver-transmitter combo with a simple "flash if tripped" circuit, but still, that is enough to draw the driver's attention.

Yeah, that might fly with friends, try your family or your wife.

Aah, we're on the same page ๐Ÿ‘.

Yeah, was bummed out about that as well, I was just getting into the groove.

IDK, might have been, it was a long time ago.

I just don't have the time and the energy to do that any more. Too old and have a family now, which takes up most of my free time. The rest I spend here, on Lemmy.

Still, he won't fuck with you any more. Hurt him and he'll leave you alone. That's s basic principle with all animals in nature. If you put up a fight, you're left alone.

Yeah, we used to fight all the time as kids, like really kick each other's asses, bruses, blood. No one ever called anyone, the teachers just started dragging us by the ears to the bathroom to clean us up, that was it. Mom or dad asks what happened, I got into a fight, that was it.

Maybe things weren't taken as seriously cuz I don't live in the US. Things were a lot different back then. Now, they're more or less like in the US, everyone just wants to take legal action... which IMO just adds further trauma to the situation. It doesn't actually solve anything. They're kids, they fight, they make up, that's the cycle.

Maybe it's also because we never had guns in schools. Even now, there hasn't been a single incident regarding fire arms in schools.
