Texas is gerrymandered to shit, and employs pretty nasty voter suppression tactics in populous (see: blue) counties by having very few polling stations per capita in those areas and making it a crime to give water/food to people waiting in line to vote. Big Texas cities are blue for the most part (maybe a few exceptions in the DFW area)

If you look at pretty much any of the cities within Texas on the latest map, you can see that they consolidate the core of the city into one or two solid blobs, then split the rest out to be diluted by rural areas. See Dallas/Tarrant County, Travis County, Bexar County, and Harris County for the most obvious cases of these.

On a population level, Texas is basically a blue state held hostage by a red state administration.

Just like the shopping cart theory itself, this is mostly just a thought experiment at this point in time.

The point of a protestation is to make it hard for others to ignore, and make it clear what the end condition is. I don't plan on just starting to do this as an individual because it would have no impact; I still make sure my own carts get returned personally.

The point stands that our goodwill is frequently exploited for profit, often under the pretense that it's just basic human decency.

Keep in mind that the 5 billion figure is literally just from food insecurity and famine during and following nuclear winter.

More people would die in the explosions directly, and more would die from the resulting fires + building collapses + radiation fallout + infrastructural collapse.

Given that most targets are population centers and military targets (often both), it doesn't look good.

But yeah I mean there probably would be some survivors.

Driving is more fun when there are more viable alternatives. I don't like driving, but it's my only real choice where I live so I do it begrudgingly, and you have to share the road with me. Think of all the people who don't want to drive (on account of it being dangerous, costly and/or mentally taxing) suddenly not being in cars, and how much traffic that would free up for you to zip around instead!

Also, calling a public service "bankrupt" is really weird to me. How many tax dollars are we spending on public highways and freeways again? Do suburbs, which are designed to be car-dependent, provide a net gain or net cost in tax revenue to cities?

This is the actual ad, the video the person above linked cuts periodically between the actual ad and drop-in skit scenes carrying the joke well beyond the point of being funny (imo)

Still some weird undertones there tho

One of our cats has a problem with marking personal items left on the floor, even though she's fixed. We think it's partially because she has bad eyesight and so marks stuff so she always knows where it is. It's usually, but not exclusively, something I or my SO wear or have worn recently:

✔️ My purse
✔️ My jacket. Probably three times
✔️ SO's backpack
✔️ My backpack that was sitting in the closet unused for several months
✔️ Articles of clothing that didn't make it into a laundry basket
✔️ The top of the cat tower when we moved it into the living room (trying to assert dominance I guess)
✔️ Rugs (I dunno under what circumstances, she hasn't marked their replacements. She will re-mark previously marked and washed rugs though)
✔️ Towels that don't get put up

The solution has more or less been to stop keeping anything important on the floor.

The other cat likes to occasionally pull towels onto the floor so he can use them as temporary bedding or snuggle up against them. You can probably guess what sometimes happens after he leaves them there.

Ah but if you ask this guy that's because of big gubmint meddling in an imaginary, utopian free and fair market

nice meme, bold of you to assume however that all rich people don't take all the money from the state they can get their hands on
