Your local library might give you free digital access to most (or all) of those, if you haven’t checked.

Thanks for the medication info! I’ve been in therapy and currently have a psychiatrist but haven’t focused much on the screaming issue. I’ll bring it up in my next appointment to see if it would work well with my meds.

I assume it must be nightmares, but I usually don’t remember them when I’m woken up. I think it’s PTSD related, but who knows.

One of the most widely-seen tweets promoting the video was also recently deleted. It came from an X user calling himself @TheWakeninq, who uses variations of the name “QAnon76” on other websites. But the video, as BBC journalist Shayan Sardarizadeh noted, had obvious hallmarks of being a deepfake, with distorted facial features and a foreign-accented voice that was out of sync with the speaker’s movements. While the alleged victim is a real person who, according to his social media presence, did graduate from the school where Walz once taught and coached, other videos on his Facebook account capture someone who looks different and speaks with an American accent. According to his Facebook account, the now-adult former student—who did not immediately respond to a request for comment—has previously experienced homelessness; a Gofundme from 2021 said that he was living in Hawaii and trying to “get off the streets.” The video is still up on @TheWakeninq’s Rumble page, where it has been viewed by at least 6,000 people.

This is so premeditated it’s disgusting. They didn’t fart out a fake person with AI, they targeted a real former student of his who they knew probably wasn’t going to hear what they’re using his likeness for due to being homeless. To take someone who is already that vulnerable and use their images for a scam like this needs to result in a prison sentence.

That I will scream in my sleep and have nobody to wake me up, and it’ll be embarrassing at minimum and maybe get the cops called at worst.

The screaming part isn’t hypothetical, it happens pretty regularly.

No way, that has to be like hitting the med school lottery. Every individual body is a wonderful unique snowflake and all that, but getting one with three dicks is a great story for the rest of your life.

Does Mastodon have the blocking features that Bluesky has (like lists, blocks stopping quote reply chains, etc)?

Other than on Blahaj, I’ve never found a place more chill to be queer online once you apply a couple of well maintained block lists.

I know candid HD photography isn’t complimentary to a lot of people, but holy shit he looks like a fucking zombie.

It’s in case some jackass on their phone rear ends you, if you’re too close you’ll get pushed into the car in front of you. IIRC you can be liable for the damages to the car in front of you while stopped if a multiple car accident happens.

It doesn’t really matter if aspartame and sugar have the same amount of calories when you use 1/200th as much to get the same level of sweetness.

Republicans aren’t getting rid of means testing and Democratic leadership for the most part doesn’t want to. Also, means testing for welfare was a huge part of Democratic campaigning in the 90s and has been embraced within the party since then.

Until Democrats fall out of love with means testing I don’t see this changing quickly or at all, unfortunately. But try getting people to accept that means testing almost always costs more than just making the programs open with few/no strings attached and watch the meltdowns start.

Obviously learning a couple of words in another language doesn't really make you bilingual, or being able to say a few phrases. But there's also clearly some point before full fluency where you can be considered bilingual, but how is it determined (formally or informally)? Is it purely vibes based, you'll know when you see it kind of thing?

I'm vaguely familiar with the CEFR levels measuring how much of a language you speak, but if there's a cutoff point for counting as bilingual in there somewhere I don't know where.

Inspired by watching my cat lay on her 6' (2 m) tall cat tower and sleep like a baby. Zero regrets, even if it makes us look like insane cat people for having a giant cat tower right in our living room. She lives here, she gets furniture too!

It has always amused me that the tourists to the US that I’ve spoken to are often very excited to see raccoons, and disappointed if they don’t see them before they leave.

Some others I’ve noticed on the east coast of the US are blue jays and cardinals. Boy, do people get excited about those if they’ve never seen them before! Very pretty birds of course, just very easy to get used to and see as uninteresting as well.

Note: this is not a request for troubleshooting help.

For the past few years my 10ish year old “smart” TV will maybe once a week or so completely lose the ability to play sound in the Youtube app, and only in the Youtube app. Sound works just fine everywhere else. Bizarrely this is always triggered by an ad and never a video. Restarting the app doesn’t fix it, and neither does clearing the cache. Fortunately doing a full restart of the TV fixes it, it’s just irritating to have to restart because an ad somehow broke the sound.

What technological gremlins haunt you?
