Did you miss the whole “if we did universal student loan forgiveness that means we’d be giving money to millionaires too, so that means we can’t do it at all 😏” song and dance? If you did I envy you because it still pisses me off.

Buttigieg himself used this reasoning in the 2020 primaries, and it’s not like there was a real outcry about it. Getting rid of means testing for anything other than children’s school meals isn’t even on the table.

And as Harris has so succinctly put it, do you think the Democratic Party of today fell out of a coconut tree? It’s the result of policies made by people in the 90s, many of whom are either still in power or have died in office only within the past few years. The policies of the 90s have a direct bearing on the party of today.

I wouldn’t support the handwaving away of it being a long time ago as a reason to overlook the dismantling of welfare for political gain for Democrats any more than I would if Republicans did it.

The version that unsettled audience members in Stuttgart this year supplanted the original musical performance with naked nuns rollerskating on a movable half-pipe at the centre of the stage, a wall of crucified naked bodies and a lesbian priest saying mass.

Lmao, that’s great. I almost suspect the cases of severe nausea to be press baiting, it’s just a little too good.

“Democrats were fooled by their social media echo chamber” is an interesting way to spell “an inherently anti-democratic institution set up to make some voters worth more than others elected the candidate with fewer votes.”

The best time to start regularly exercising and eating at least moderately healthy food is 10 years ago, the second best time is now.

Now, instead of paying Rooney the draft severance amount worth a little more than $25,000, Twitter, which is now called X, has to pay Rooney more than $600,000

lol. lmao.

This month, Walmart became the latest retailer to announce it’s replacing the price stickers in its aisles with electronic shelf labels. The new labels allow employees to change prices as often as every ten seconds.

“If it’s hot outside, we can raise the price of water and ice cream. If there's something that’s close to the expiration date, we can lower the price — that’s the good news,” said Phil Lempert, a grocery industry analyst.

Jesus, I can’t imagine just coming out and saying this like it’s not fucking deranged to charge people more for WATER during a heat wave.

Also, the first time the price of something rises in the 5 minutes it takes for me to get my shopping done and get to the checkout, I’m taking a shit on the floor.

The humor is way more redditty on lemmy. Which I realize sounds nonsensical, but a huge portion of lemmy users are former reddit users who both think reddit humor is funny and have like 10 years of reddit humor memes to draw on. The “early” (2012ish) reddit I’m remembering had less of that and a lot more of what current users would consider cringe, like f7u12 comics. And a lot more general weird nerd awkwardness… like the frozen soap post.

The institute's founder, Mark McAfee, told the Los Angeles Times this weekend that his customers are, in fact, specifically requesting raw milk from H5N1-infected cows. According to McAfee, his customers believe, without evidence, that directly drinking high levels of the avian influenza virus will give them immunity to the deadly pathogen.

Looks like it’s going to be a fun flu season this year 🫠 Every day I feel more justified in my decision to relentlessly mask with an N95 every time I’m indoors in public.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, if there’s a better location please let me know where to direct this.

One of the mods of !gaming@lemmy.world (Stormageddon47) left some disturbing comments here, referring to the simulated rape of a child in VR as “bullying” and insisting multiple times that it should not be investigated by police at all, despite sexual harassment of children obviously being a crime.

They repeatedly downplay the seriousness of what happened to the girl and spread misinformation about the police trying to prosecute it as a rape. While there are media stories referring to it this way, reliable sources are very explicit about the fact rape laws do not cover what happened to this girl.

Just wanted to make sure the admins knew this was going on, thanks for your time.

This is on the most recent iPhone version and the most recent Voyager version. My text size is set as large as possible without the accessibility sizes being on (honestly I would go larger, but accessibility sizes are a bit too big). Making the text this big makes the button to select photos pushed off to the left, and the three dots button is pushed off to the right. They will let me interact with them if I tap as far to the left/right as possible, but I didn't realize I was missing UI elements until someone mentioned it.

Sorry if this has already been reported, I tried searching the github issues but I'm not sure I know the right keywords to use. Thanks for all the work you do on this app! 🙏

Neat, a potential FCC violation. I don't know if this violates the advertisement disclosure requirement for political ads, but I bet someone at the FCC does.

You might expect the whirring blades of a helicopter to spark concern or annoyance from animals in the vicinity. But for the reptilian residents of a crocodile farm, a low-flying chopper seemed to signal mating season.

"All of the big males got up and roared and bellowed up at the sky, and then after the helicopters left they mated like mad," John Lever, owner of the Koorana Crocodile Farm in Queensland, Australia, told ABC.
