This implication has two problems:

  1. This handling of new technology's has always been like that. The first nuclear reactor was build bevor they knew if it even works. No body thought twice about the danger. The difference here is that it benefits poor people more than rich so most people don't care really.

  2. In the case of most non-competitive mutations we know exactly what happens. Because this argument is so old, we now have detailed study's on gene mobility like vitamin A enzymes. Because the plant can't use that much of it, the gene is silenced very quickly. That means that your crops will yield yellow and white seeds. The farmers have to plant only yellow ones ore the genes can hardly be found on his field after a few generations.

The post says that targeted mutagenesis is safer than non targeted. The criticism you mentioned - very one sided btw - holds true for both cases. You are right with your criticism on GMO's but radioactivity Is a worse option than Crispr.

  1. This is a exclusive problem for the US. A County with a working justice system would acknowledge biological gene mobility and the natural reproduction cycle. That means farmers will be able to grow plants out of their own seeds as well as cross the mutants with relatives to keep the benefits alongside biodiversity. This is of course no business model but open funded research could do it as well.

  2. Most scientists have a strong opinion against herbicide resistance (like round-up, round-up-ready). These genes are very quickly found in other plants do to gene transfer so it's only a short short sighted solution.

PS: Glyphosate is the best herbicide we know. Your argument is valid for all herbicides but with roundup the least.

Fabric is - as you know - not made out of a continuous material but rather fibres. These fibers allow for movement up to the point were the network is in tension. This tension is the result of bonds. While the fibre itself relies on covalent bonds of extreme strength the bonds between different fibres are way way weaker. So weak that they "feel" temperature. Also a polar solvent like water weakens these bonds significantly. If you iron fabric while it is laying flat, the fibres rearrange to minimise tension. The new arrangement hardens out while cooling. The new arrangement prefers a flat structure. That way it looks flat on your body.

I'm on Ubuntu. A week ago I had to look up how to use a python script. I wouldn't even hide porn that much.

Two reasons:

  1. There are long term plans to legalize it. Currently it may be against International Law so it will take a while until it can be opened for all. The first action will be scientific observed modell citys.
  2. The decriminalisation will aim to destroy the black market. This is done by allowing social clubs than can grow their own plants and hand their members up to 50 Gramms. That is a lot and the implicite idea is that this amount will also allow a bit of interchange without being enough to drive a illegal business.

I think I'm general you are right, the south is more Conservative. This ist probably because the south is rich. Most Money in Germany is produced in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg (where I live) and Hesse. They cling to their money very badly, hence the conservative mindset. That being said, there are very progressive hotspots. The Capitals for example (Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart) are very open for differing views and Social political ideas. But you can go even better. If you look for City's with high Student concentrations you go more and more left. I am from Tübingen and this place hates conservatives. Anti LGBTQ Ideas must fear for ther physical protection. The same thing will be true in Freiburg and Konstanz in BW but I am sure there are places in the other two country's aswell. Can you give us an estimate where to go and how progressive the people should be? Then we will a place, I am sure.
