It's deliberately more difficult to not tip, it's always more buttons and less obvious. Ideally tipping should be abolished (with employees being paid a decent wage) but until then, some form of regulation would be helpful. Otherwise there is no pressure for businesses to act better. I still think my suggestion fits into the theme of this thread.

You're down playing the social and anchoring forces. For instance, you're in a long line and you're prompted to pay, the no tip or tip less than the default options is always more difficult. These default options are used by employers as a way to under pay staff. If these default options were made clear before the purchase there would be a pressure for businesses to reduce or remove those options. As it stands, the default options is a strong anchor.

The FAA failed to regulate Boeing. I'm pro regulation and laws that protect people's privacy. And if this company and the individuals within it break the law they should receive appropriate punishments with fines tied to international revenue.

My point is that the laws should relate to privacy independent of the technology. The "ban face recognition" narrative misses the point and doesn't address the threats. Facial recognition technology can be used in ways that don't threaten individuals privacy and non facial recognition technologies can be a threat to individual privacy.

It's cynical to assume this company is breaking privacy with no evidence. But it's fair to say there needs to be greater punishments and regulations

I'm also using fastmail and I'm happy with them. Their native android email client is a little clunky but I still use it and I have the option to use other mail clients too.

It's about time. My Amazon Echo signed me up for Prime because it didn't understand me when I said "No!". And guess what, you can't unsubscribe though the Amazon Echo. So I had to play that stupid maze game trying to find the "unsubscribe"/"do you really want to unsubscribe"/"are you sure" buttons on half a doesn't pages.
