You hear the one about the COBOL programer? In 1999 many people were worried about a bug with dates that could crash their systems. Unfortunately, a lot of really important systems were still using the outdated COBOL programing language. A search was done to find someone who could fix these systems. The last programmer who knew COBOL was found and they made a lot of money fixing up these systems. So much money that, once they received a cancer diagnosis, they cyrogenically froze themselves hoping that a cure for their disease would be found in the future. The programmer is awoken one day in a lab filled with high tech robotics. A person who is seemingly half machine themseves stands before them. The programmer asks "Have you found a cure for my disease?". The person replies "We have cured all diseases. You are the COBOL programmer, correct?" "That's right" "Great! It is the year 9999 and we have a problem we need your help with."

Naoki Hyakuta, a writer and founder of the Conservative Party of Japan, also said that women should not be permitted to attend university from the age of 18, apparently so they could focus their efforts on producing more babies.

The conservative party's solution to declining birthrates is to make it illegal for women to do anything besides have children. What are you confused about?

I'm glad Microsoft realized allowing any company to push kernel-level code to consumers was a terrible idea. A bug at that level can brick a PC and needs to be thoroughly scrutinized before being pushed out to end users. If a company dedicated to computer security wasn't doing proper code reviews I really doubt game studios were either.

Moderator: We checked with Game Freak and you cannot catch Mew

Trump: I heard it at school! They said it at school! Lots of reports of people catching Mew!

Everything is 0s and 1s to a computer. What a pattern of 0s and 1s encodes is decided by people--often arbitrarily. Over the years there have been attempts to standardize encodings but, for legacy reasons, older encodings are still valid.

The 0s and 1s that encode ' in UTF-8 (a standardized encoding) are the same 0s and 1s that encode ’ in CP-1252 (a legacy encoding).

The symbol is shown when the 0s and 1s don't encode anything of meaning.

Have you tried mixing in a 1/4 cup of non-toxic glue?

Another neighbourhood in Kyoto has also thought about outright banning tourists after having to deal with them just walking into people's homes. The neighbourhood is known for its old architecture. They're still private homes. It's nice you think the old houses look cool, you can't just walk into them.

Or post your question with a picture of Kurisu Makise saying "you should be able to solve this"

That's how they got a 4chan user to post the solution to an unsolved math problem

I wonder why the sudden loss of membership?

But on Wednesday, the Brevard County school board held a meeting, in part to discuss a challenge to the books The Kite Runner and Slaughterhouse-Five. Only one Moms for Liberty member showed up. All the other attendees spoke in favor of keeping the books on the shelves—and heavily criticized the parental rights organization. One attendee compared “the growth of the Taliban and its repressive autocracy in the name of religious nationalism” in The Kite Runner to “the rise of parental rights groups that want to limit what students learn.” The Moms for Liberty member did not speak and eventually snuck out of the room. The books were not banned.

Oh, they didn't like being outnumbered at meetings! It just goes to show that when more people participate in local affairs it silences the extreme voices. Political apathy is dangerous.

So his father dies and he asks his school for counselling and they respond by calling the police who lock him in solitary confinement and CPS threatens his mother with taking him away?

It's not a stereotype when scientific studies tend to confirm it.

Sex drive: Theoretical conceptualization and meta-analytic review of gender differences

The meta-analysis revealed a stronger sex drive in men compared to women, with a medium-to-large effect size, g = 0.69, 95% CI [0.58, 0.81]. Men more often think and fantasize about sex, more often experience sexual affect like desire, and more often engage in masturbation than women.

Is There a Gender Difference in Strength of Sex Drive? Theoretical Views, Conceptual Distinctions, and a Review of Relevant Evidence

Across many different studies and measures, men have been shown to have more frequent and more intense sexual desires than women, as reflected in spontaneous thoughts about sex, frequency and variety of sexual fantasies, desired frequency of intercourse, desired number of partners, masturbation, liking for various sexual practices, willingness to forego sex, initiating versus refusing sex, making sacrifices for sex, and other measures. No contrary findings (indicating stronger sexual motivation among women) were found. Hence we conclude that the male sex drive is stronger than the female sex drive.
