Dude, just build a better product and let it speak for itself. Or maybe try contributing to kbin. It’s not cool to always be harping on the guy for his development pace and trying to pull people over to your fork. Like, we’re supposed to hop over there because you’ve made more commits this week? How do we know your project would be any better off if it ever blows up the way kbin did?

That kbin dude got tens of thousands of subscribers overnight and then put on blast with bug reports and feature requests. He’s done a good job running the site too. He’s got a pretty good track record as far as I’m concerned. He hasn’t asked for shit in return except a little space to maintain his sanity.

You’re missing out on watching a lot of progress bars while you reinstall all the time. If you like what you have, keep using it. All you get from switching is a different package manager, a few slightly different package names, maybe faster updates and a new default desktop background. You’ll still be using all the same apps, probably similar versions, probably systemd. It’s a bigger difference logging into a new desktop environment than a new distro.

Ha! I remember that. I watched it once or twice for the novelty of it. I seem to recall that it was very bland except for the naked women. According to Wikipedia, they are still around and I think that may be more shocking than this AI news.

Sam Rockwell is cast perfectly in just about everything. Phenomenal actor. Kinda surprised we don’t see him more.

Do you prefer Trump, DeSantis or Ramaswamy? There are no good candidates on the Republican side. Unfortunately, one of them is going to be the nominee and whoever it is has a decent chance of becoming president. As bad as she is, I don’t think she’s the worst Republican.

This guy is a quack, a disgrace to the medical profession and an all around moron. The fact that he graduated from Harvard says a lot more about Harvard than it does about him. He should lose his license.

It doesn’t matter. He has no chance of winning anything. Regardless of the shitty things he’s done, I appreciate that he’s calling out Trump now. Republican voters need to hear it from Republicans and I don’t really care how the media paints Christie as long as they deliver the message. Trump is a bigger threat than ever. Most candidates either support him or tiptoe around without acknowledging how dangerous he is. We need someone to take him head on. Frankly, it’s better when those people are former supporters who got to see things up close.

I don't know if that's a fair criticism. I think I first saw something about this thing yesterday. Not much of a marketing push. I had to look it up to see what the heck it is. It seems to have a very specific and narrow use case. I'm sure it's a nice option for people with that need and works well enough, but it's not exactly something the masses are clamoring for. There's similar tech out there and they are sort of niche products. I don't expect this thing to be selling like hotcakes.

No. Why would they do that? There’s no money there. Poor people are on the hook for hardly any tax anyway. The people who cheat generally own companies or are self employed and often have access to cash. It happens a lot in small businesses. It’s a crime of opportunity. Hard to do it when tax is already deducted from your check before you get it. Easy when you can put yourself on the books for a modest salary and pocket a bunch of cash under the table.

Git and GNU stow.

The impact is negligible. It’s a few extra seconds during boot. You won’t even notice during use except maybe for specific IO-intensive workloads. FDE on a modern computer isn’t like the junk from 15 years ago with third party security apps. There’s no reason not to use it.

I don't necessarily think the founders fucked up. It's important that the court be free from political influence when deciding cases so I think they had the right idea. I'm not necessarily opposed to lifetime appointments. Where I think there's a lot of room for improvement is the nomination and confirmation process. It's entirely political, contentious, and has produced a few lousy justices in recent years.

This idea of one party only appointing conservatives and the other only appointing liberals and both sides hating the other's appointments is what's fucked up. What could be interesting is a bipartisan Congressional nominating committee that produces candidates that are at least palatable to both sides. Let's say there's a 2/3 majority requirement for the committee to nominate someone. They could produce a list of several candidates and the president nominates one of them. Basically take this process away from partisan NGOs and give it to a bipartisan group of elected representatives.
