Notesnook.

I was previously using Obsidian, which is great! but didn't like that it was closed source. I then went on to try various options [0] but none of them felt "right". I eventually found notesnook and it hit everything I was looking for [1]. It's only gotten better in the last year I started using it and just recently they introduced the ability to host your own sync server, which is one of the requirements it didn't initially make, but was on their roadmap.

[0] Obsidian, Standard Notes, OneDrive, VSCode with addons, Joplin, Google Keep, Simple Notes, Crypt.ee, CryptPad (more of a collabroation suite, which I actually really like, but it did not fit the bill of a notes app), vim with addons, Logseq, Zettlr, etc.

[1] Requirements in no particular order:

• Open source client and server.
• Cross-platform availability as I use Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android.
• Cross-platform feature parity.
• Doesn't fight me over how notes should be taken - looking at Logseq's lack of organization.
• Easy notes syncing.
• End-to-end encryption (E2EE). It's about to be 2025, if the tools you're picking up aren't E2EE, you're letting unknown strangers access your data and resell it. It doesn't matter what their privacy policy says as that can always change and/or they can get compromised/compelled to expose your data.
• Ability to publish notes.
• Decent UX.

They also refuse to distance themselves from Google’s app store.

This link has existed forever at this point if we count in internet years: https://signal.org/android/apk/ - getting an app directly from the developer with no middleman is about as distant as you can get from Google's app store.

I would disagree. When the right (known liars like Boebert, Trump, Logan Paul, etc) continuously lie about anything to try to rile up their base, I say it's imperative to completely disregard their opinions unless someone trusted is making the accusations. This is what they expect, this is exactly what they want. We need to ignore them. Not even bring it up. Keep them fringe and outcast them as weirdos. They bring nothing good to the table but lies, hatred, and divisiveness.

Germany, there's a time and place for everything. This is like supporting a "sovereign citizen's " right to freedom during a murderous rampage. It's giving "blue lives matter" during George Floyd's murder.

Here are a few reasons people believe:

• Tradition and Identity: Religion can be a core part of a person's cultural heritage or family identity. People may feel a connection to their ancestors or cultural background through their faith.

• Ethics and Morality: Many religions provide a moral code that guides people's behavior. This can be helpful in making decisions about right and wrong.

I don't believe, but I can see why people stick with it and don't look beyond it. You can get all these things without religion, its just not something that's taught/passed down in the same way as religion is. Additionally, deconstructing is very difficult. You're raised to believe something to be real and you're expected to just drop it and step out of Plato's cave? You'd look like a madman to any friends/family who aren't willing and ready to step out and look around.

Going from one billionaire's platform to another (Twitter/Musk > Bluesky/Dorsey) is not a smart move. There's a vast segment of the population that learns nothing and keeps making the same mistakes.

Fixed it.

Click "Activities" in the upper right and search for "tweaks", click the "Tweaks" icon. Select "Keyboard & Mouse" and turn "Middle Click Paste" to "off".

All good points but I'd like to point out that the first one is likely the biggest reason not to use it - it's based on Chromium and continues to give Google/Chrome the browser market share to dictate the direction of the web.

"but we get paid so much more" /s. I've heard this before from people in the tech sector, ignoring the fact that should the shit hit the fan we Americans have no social programs to assist us. I'd take half my pay to get what people in Europe are guaranteed.
