We are better off not having Facebook be mistaken for a source of news. There is no news on Facebook, only memes, propaganda, and misinformation.

Just to be clear, these are not Trudeau's laws. Canadian anti-hate speech laws have been on the books for decades.

[-] MapleEngineer@lemmy.ca 16 points 2 months ago

That's exactly it. It's always hate speech that those who are braying about free speech are trying to protect.

2/3 of Canadians own their own homes.

Anber argued a potential jury pool could be prejudiced from “the animosity fomented by local politicians and the media; the formal position of the City of Ottawa; the civil (lawsuit);...

Or the thousands of people who were tortured, harassed, intimidated, threatened, put out of work, and forced to deal human shit all over the street and diesel fumes for weeks?

There is a 100% sure way to assure that you don't get an unfair trial for a crime that you committed. Don't commit the fucking crime

During the early pandemic the anti-reality folks said that the Covid vaccine wasn't actually a vaccine since you didn't need boosters with a real vaccine like the polio vaccine. I pointed out that the polio vaccine primary series required three boosters. No, no, they said...those were part of the vaccine, not boosters. I pointed out that each subsequent dose boosted the immune response so they were, in fact, boosters. No, no, they said. They were part of the primary series of the vaccine, not boosters. I then pointed out that in some recipients the immune response from the primary series wasn't strong enough and that they required, "additional boosters", according to the description of the vaccine. "You shut your porky mouth, they said."

Whether it's called a booster or a vaccine doesn't matter to me. I'm going to get it.

I don't care either way. Literally don't care.

I'm smart enough, though, to know that it's being used as a dog whistle to whip up populist nationalism which is never a good thing for a country.

Pierre Polievre has already come out and said he wouldn't do it if elected and would instead spend his money on housing regular Canadians. That type of virtue signaling is why 24 Sussex is in the state that it is in.

This is the Conservative "not spending money is saving money" fallacy. Not spending money for necessary repairs and maintenance doesn't save money, it costs more in the end. If your roof needs fixing and you put off fixing it you're not saving money. Fixing your roof costs more when you eventually fix it and you likely have to repair water damage and replace insulation. This is what Harper did. He neglected everything from the military, to veterans, to government IT infrastructure, to search and rescue...the list goes on and on and on. When the Liberals finally won they had to spend money to fix all of the Conservatives neglect. Then the Conservatives complain about the Liberals spending. It's so fucking tiring.

Yes, and there are a few Facebook refugees here pushing their anti-reality nonsense.
