The fact that quantum dots are already being successfully applied to LCD-LED and OLED screens is encouraging for future QDEL products. QDEL stakeholders claim that the tech could bring efficiencies like lower power consumption and higher brightness than OLED. (Research using a prototype device has recorded quantum dot light-emitting diodes reaching 614,000 nits. Of course, those aren't the type of results you should expect to see in a real-life consumer product.)
614,000 nits
That's fucking insane. HDR 1400 displays are at least 1,400 nits. 614,000 nits seems like you'd be staring at the fucking sun.
There's also hope that QDEL could eventually last longer than OLED, especially since QDEL doesn't rely on organic materials that can cause burn-in.
Tbh the burn-in issue is the reason why I don't like OLEDs as computer monitors. I know phones and TVs don't tend to have major burn-in issues, but the fact that it exists sucks. TVs have a variable-enough image that long-term use isn't an issue imo, and even the most thrifty person will probably end up replacing their phone every 4~6 yrs. However, I'm used to having computer monitors be long-term things. My last monitor lasted about 10yrs before it died.
As it stands, QDEL displays would become noticeably dimmer more quickly than today's OLED displays.
Aw, that's disappointing. At the same time though, if they're able to get even 10% of the 614,000 nits on commercial units, then they'd have to lose a significant amount of brightness to dim to current display levels.
But optimists believe QDEL display lifetimes could one day be on par with LCD-LEDs and outlast OLEDs.
Yeah, I hope so too.
Interesting. I thought it was fairly well established that Jesus existed in some capacity but the debate was about who he actually was and (from a religious standpoint) if he did any of the things the Bible claims he did. It's interesting to read that non-jewish people of the time seemed to have no knowledge of his existence.
At the same time though, I wonder if it's possible that most people just ignored him, which is why there's apparently very few accounts of him until after he supposedly died, resurrected and ascended to heaven. Kinda like a street preacher in Times Square, NYC. How many people actually acknowledge street preachers on social media, and how many of them actually know the preachers by name? Then think about how social media didn't exist yet, so the bar to be recorded in history by uninterested third parties (even just as a letter to a friend about that "annoying Jesus guy") is probably a lot higher.
Not saying he existed, just that it's interesting to think that he could have existed but the lack of evidence is just because no one gave a fuck.
I wonder how many non-nsfw streamers are rejoicing because they no longer have to be paranoid about modded games and nudity. Prior to twitch relaxing rules regarding nudity, you could get banned for a split second of nudity in a modded game, and official nudity/sex scenes in M-rated games were playing with fire (technically allowed, but up to an admin's discretion if you were trying to "stream porn" or just playing the game as intended). At least I'm assuming these new rules will include further relaxing the game content rules. It wouldn't make sense to allow full "artistic nudity" if you're still banning streamers because of a few frames of modded tiddy.
20hp
737lb-ft torque
Sweet Jesus Christ.
That's more torque than a lot of modern muscle cars have. I know electric motors can shit out a lot of torque, but holy fuck.
I wonder how many voters have registered so far as a result of that. Assuming it's been 24hrs since her post, and assuming an average of 13,000 every 30min for the full 24hrs, it'd come out to 624,000 people!
That's a lotta voters
I've never been a fan of her music, but I'm kinda becoming a fan of her as a person.
This needs to turn into a class action suit that results in John Tortellini having his oxygen rights revoked. I can't imagine shareholders will be happy finding out that John Riceroni has been selling off Unity's stock, and I'm pretty sure what Unity's trying to do here is straight-up illegal in the US. Fuck John Rigatoni. God, I was so happy thinking he'd died and gone to hell after EA, but nope, still alive and well.
Cute, they seem to completely gloss over the fact that the review of the site's environmental impact was rushed, the fact that it'll likely be disrupting several native habitats, including at least one species that doesn't exist elsewhere, the fact that it'll apparently be destroying places that are important to the culture and religions of the surrounding tribal groups (apparently thacker pass is sacred as a massacre against native Americans was committed there, and that they were not consulted before it was approved like they were supposed to), or any of the other issues with it.
We need lithium, but considering how bad of a reputation resource extraction companies have, could we not gloss over the fact that, once again, a mining company is about to bulldoze a lot of land with ecological, cultural, and religious importance in the name of green capitalism? At least force them to mine underground instead of gouging yet another scar into the face of the earth with an open pit mine.
Time to stop browsing new. Jesus. I hope they get caught and locked up for a long time.
Edit: wtf, it still shows up browsing by top hour despite shittons of down votes. That's an actual issue. Sorting by "top" anything should not include heavily down voted posts. I hope lemmy.world is working with the FBI and whatever country this garbage is coming from to fuck them up.
I wonder how many people will actually show up? God, I want to wake up on the 25th and read an article about how there's a manhunt out for Trump because his lawyers dragged him down to Georgia and then he ditched them after pretending he needed to piss.
Weed (not legal in all states)
Most hallucinogens (at least for medical or supervised use)
Being trans (lotta states trying to ban me)
Being gay (they're probably next)
Abortion (many states ban this now)
Free healthcare (not technically illegal, per se)
Being homeless
Polyamory (not technically illegal afaik, but there are a lot of legal benefits that married couples get which aren't extended to polyamorous relationships due marriage being restricted to couples only)
The list goes on because while there are many basic things that aren't technically illegal, the system is set up in a way to fuck you because of the required profit motive behind offering basic necessities in a capitalist society.
