Nope, just that Hitler is one notable counterexample. There are plenty more European war criminals.

Don't forget Hideki Tojo too. Not white, but still a light-skinned war criminal.

Vladamir Putin is wanted for crimes against humanity right now. There is a warrant out for his arrest.

And are we just allowing the current situation in Israel to slip our minds voluntarily?

I cannot comment on how vigorously the law is enforced in other countries because I am not familiar with the legal environment. In the United States, downloading pirated content will eventually get legal notices sent to your internet service provider, who will threaten to (and legally is required to) disconnect you for repeated piracy. Using copyrighted pictures off the Internet will result in legal threats sent to you as well demanding settlements of hundreds of US dollars per picture, and they will follow through with a lawsuit if you don't pay. Although I have no specific examples of what Microsoft has done, Autodesk and Adobe have sued people who used pirated copies of their software for millions of dollars. People who operate websites offering pirated content have been prosecuted and sent to prison.

Maybe you as an individual can get away with it in your country, but don't assume it is the case all over the world.

That's not relevant. We're talking about why Indian people are using Linux in greater numbers so only Indian law really matters in the context of this discussion.

Lack of SSH would be a deal breaker for me.

Interpret my comment to mean chattel slavery

Not for the shipping company. It's not their oil. The Iranians can ask the shipping company for compensation, which they could easily refuse and there isn't much recourse that the Iranians would have. The Chinese could demand compensation but if the company again refuses or claims insolvency or whatever, it's easier for the Chinese to just stiff the Iranians with payment instead.

QAnon would have made for an excellent action movie plotline if only people didn't subscribe to it in real life. Swap in some fake politicians and it's almost Hollywood-ready.

I'm not a sovereign citizen. This is just a point where the law isn't fair/doesn't work in the way that you'd expect. See the updated parent comment for sources + legal reasoning.

I looked it up and it turns out, he's the president! The organisation is the Parking Reform Network. It seems they're specifically against car parks but listening to him talk I though it was against all sorts of car infrastructure.

Over the school year I live in Corvallis, OR (attending Oregon State Univ) where it's extremely walkable and likeable. Free public transit but only on weekdays, unfortunately. Regional buses connect with the train station in Albany.

Sadly, over the summer, I'm back at my parents' place and they live on a very steep hill 20 minutes by foot from the nearest bus stop, and the bus only comes every 45 minutes so there's really no option but to drive :(

You weren't supposed to be able to protect the mere idea of something. Software copyright I fully support but patents are revolting. At least the expire after a while whereas copyright lasts way too long.

I think courts in the US are slowly coming to the consensus that AI-generated content is not eligible for copyright. My opinion is that this solves the problem rather perfectly; companies now have an incentive to use humans, because if they use AI to make content then anyone is free to rip off that content, and I think that's the way it should be.

AI should benefit humanity, and its products should be open and available for everyone, rather than being something for corporations to exploit for their own sole benefit.
