The Government demonetised ₹1000 and ₹2000 banknotes a few years back as part of a campaign against "black money". The Government's thinking was that criminal organisations hoarded large amounts of cash in these large-denomination notes, and by forcing everyone to deposit the notes immediately into the bank, it would bring light to the flow of money.

It was not particularly successful and mostly all it did was lead to a week of chaos and long queues outside banks.

It's not that shallow. You are trying to use an anecdote, and not even a concrete anecdote, to argue a matter of statistics. The anecdote isn't even illustrative of any point. It is utterly disconnected from any statistical argument. It is not logically sound and you should know that. We're talking about how many people pirate things, not whether any given person pirates something. What you have argued in your comment is, "there exists a set of circumstances where a person could reasonably be driven to commit piracy". That is neither persuasive to your thesis nor particularly enlightening.

I really wish rhetoric was taught as a standard subject in grade school. It must not be where you're from.

Well, your thought is wrong. Copyright infringement is an offence in India. It's also an offence in the United States, where I live. It is also an offence in Indonesia (seeing you're using an Indonesian instance), punishable by three years imprisonment and a 500 million rupiah fine. But maybe it's not enforced well there so you didn't know about it

That's true, but most Lemmy clients default their sort to "Local" (only posts from the instance you registered on). I don't think there are many dedicated NSFW instances that are federated, at least not with my instance (lemmy.ml). Your experience may differ. The problem is that if few people can access and are aware of a community, then fewer people will post in it. That might explain why there is a lack of good porn communities on Lemmy compared to Reddit.

Only the truly desperate would work a factory job for $14 an hour. The going rate is double that.

"Work for half of the market rate to fuck over striking workers while braving insults and abuse!*"

* Abuse is not guaranteed to come from strikers. In the event strikers do or do not deliver, the abuse will be delivered by management

Bitcoin Core went from 0.20.1 to 0.21 to 0.21.1 to 22.0 in 2021. Even though it was completely functional for over a decade at that point and was handling billions of dollars in transactions

I thought about that but the cost of shipping the ouster sauce exceeds its value

This isn't exclusively an American thing. I went to China and it's extremely common to see SIM cards being hawked on the street and sold to tourists. They're disposable and quite convenient. You buy them on the street, pop the SIM card in, get an activation text, and then you get data for a week before it stops working and you throw it away. They come with different data amounts and durations. But eSIMs do exist as well there, although it's not nearly as convenient. You need to register your identity (surveillance purposes) and sign up for a regular phone contract. I haven't seen any disposable eSIM plans there yet.

During "peak hours" certain unlimited plans are throttled to 480p. It doesn't always happen.

I don't think that's the sole reason. I don't know anyone who uses WordPad. Like you said, for quick text edits people use Notepad or some other simple text editor and for anything more sophisticated than that people use a full office suite like LibreOffice or MS Office or pirated copies thereof.

It just doesn't make sense to maintain a third word processor software that nobody bothers to really use.

He used it in the context that whenever either me or my brother complained to him about something, it was because both parties usually were guilty of starting shit and just one of us was complaining about it.
