While I like the sentiment, in reality I think it would do the same thing as it's doing on Reddit - turn Lemmy into a huge bot farm trying to get money from real users.

This is off topic, but why isn't there an animated gif of Bugs Bunny saying the "NO"? I mean, we have animated gifs for almost everything else, but I only see this as a static pic. Can no one find the cartoon that this is from and create a gif from it?

I am a big NFL fan, and I found the instance nfl.community. It has a community for each team, as well as a general NFL community. I joined a couple of the communities through my lemmy.world account, but it sees no posts there. I know this instance isn't defederated from nfl.community, so why wouldn't I be able to see any posts? I don't understand, what am I missing?

EDIT: I just reread my post and realized that I didn't mention that there are tons of post on all the communities on this instance, but nothing shows when logged in through World.

SOLVED: So I had the chance today to reread through this thread and do some digging based on the replies, and I've figured out the issue. I went back and looked at nfl.communities, and it turns out that can@sh.itjust.works is correct - all the posts on that server are by users that are from the alien.top instance. Those aren't actual users, alien.top just scrapes posts & comments from Reddit. So those aren't actual posts by Lemmy users, and, as can said, there wouldn't be any engagement from anyone on that server, because they won't see my posts & comments. Lastly, I followed a link can posted with bot rules, and one of lemmy.world's policies is "Bots shall not just be posting Reddit content", which is exactly what alien.top is doing. That explains why World is blocking all the posts from the nfl.communites server.

Thanks to everyone who responded and helped sort this out!

Okay, first let's cool it with the insults. He's not a moron, he's my friend, and he's extremely intelligent. But he's been brainwashed by propaganda from those who want to hold up Musk as a god-like figure, which is why I say we NEED to continue publicize Musk's negative actions to keep balanced information out there.

Second, telling people that they should stop talking on social media about something that you're tired of hearing about is the antithesis of SOCIAL media. If no one wanted to talk about it, it wouldn't keep getting posted and commented on. You can use filters and never see another post with his name, but ironically, you opened this post about Musk and made a comment, which keeps it going.

Actually we need to keep publicizing his ridiculousness so those that worship him might finally realize he’s not some genius ™. I had a friend recently tell me that Musk was probably the smartest person on the planet right now. I had to explain - as gently as possible so as not to offend those who think others are the snowflakes - that Musk is the very definition of starting on third base and thinking you hit a triple. My buddy gets plenty of propaganda telling him how great Musk is, there needs to be plenty of balance.

NOTE: Before you tell me, yes, I know that brainwashed people don’t just change their mind, and it probably won’t make a difference. But we shouldn’t let these lines of thought go unchallenged.

This one is easy for me. When I was a kid, my mom made a hamburger casserole. The ingredients were fairly cheap, it was easy to make, delicious, and filling – all perfect for a single mother who worked long hours. Needless to say, we had it pretty regularly. When she passed away, my wife inherited all of her recipes. Mom has been gone 10 years, but when my wife makes it, it tastes just like it used to and takes me back to a time when, even though we didn’t have much money, it was her and me against the world. Eating it now gives me a warm comfortable feeling.

In fact, I’m going to text my wife now and tell her that I’d like some for supper this week.

I’d be more impressed if Congress was under scrutiny for their ties to China. And Russia. And Saudi Arabia.

That’s close to one of the running jokes that my wife and I have. When we’re in the grocery or department store and we spilt up for a few, when I find her, I will sneak up behind her and say, “Excuse me ma’am, I know you don’t know me, but you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Can I pay for your stuff and take you back to my place?”

I always think I’m funny. She? Only sometimes. Me? Always.

Maybe this is a Lemmy thing and not a Voyager thing, but sometimes in a comment thread there will be text that says “1 more reply” (or whatever the number is) like in the picture. No matter how many times I click it, it doesn’t open.

Is there a setting that I missed? Is there a reason that I just don’t know?

No one wants to “accidentally” fall out of a window?

It's known as a trial balloon. "Oh, I was only joking! Unless you're fine with it, then I'm serious."

Well, anyone else, but not me. I know next to nothing - no wait, I know actual nothing - about coding.

I always used old.reddit.com with RES on my desktop. I've started using old.lemmy.world now, and I love the familiarity, but I realize how much I miss RES. I wish there was something for the old.lemmy.world that offered the same enhancements.

About 10 days ago I wrote a comment on a post about an update to Memmy. I asked for an orange icon, which was added a day or two later.

I also asked for a way to jump to the next parent comment on a post, whether that be a small button on the bottom like Apollo or a swipe, just a way to get out of a comment chain and move to the next parent comment without having to just scroll and look. I got a reply saying that you were going to start working on it, and I thought it would be out by now, but I haven't seen anything about it.

Is that still coming?
