From my testing a few months back, there was significant slow down in the cutscenes. Actual gameplay was fine. I have no idea why. I know that SteamOS 3.5 has a fix for a kernel issue that caused issues with SMT, so perhaps things are better now. Once 3.5 reaches stable I'll test the games out again.
Yeah, they changed too much unnecessarily whilst keeping the rest of the game identical. The addition of first person shooting really broke it in some ways because the original game wasn't designed that way. I think they'd need to redesign it from the ground up to make the more modern mechanics work properly. Something like RE2 Remake.
Yes the karma system here is way better! It definitely reduces the hive mind mentality.
I don't think we need any kind of algorithm though. That would only serve to make the popular stuff more popular and the niche stuff gets buried. Maybe if I could personally filter out communities that I'm not interested in?
I find myself researching movies, books etc. before I read them so I can see if they'll suit my tastes. Then, even if they start slow I know generally I'll enjoy them and it'll be worth the initial investment. I think that helps improve my attention span because my patience is then rewarded.
I actually had no idea Prey (2017) was a loose sequel to an earlier game. It looks like the 2006 game is quite hard to obtain nowadays... Maybe one to pirate at some point.
What do you think of the 2017 game? I've also heard good things about that.
Ah that's cool! But then again, the game is designed to be quite linear (there were a couple areas that required backtracking) so I wonder how much of a difference it really makes.
I'll have to give the remake a go at some point in the future.

Yes I played Ico (PS3 remaster) and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere felt very similar and the ending was beautiful, but most importantly the gameplay was far less frustrating in my opinion. It was clear what the 'puzzle pieces' were/what I was working with - whereas with SOTC I sometimes struggled to work out what was actually intended with each puzzle.
I've also played The Last Guardian and loved it. People say that controlling Trico in that is frustrating, but I had far more trouble with the player movement and vague requirements of each boss in SOTC.
Thank you for this comprehensive response. Out of interest, do you think that certain artist jobs/genres will survive? For example, I would imagine that humans can innovate better than an AI trained on existing data. So perhaps we'll see a shift towards more human-created modern/post-AI art?
