Am I missing something? Kodi doesn't seem to have any support for any streaming services, nor any good way to launch the relevant apps from the home screen?

Dota does too but its fairly hidden and requires unanimous agreement. That said, Dota is far less snowbally, so unlike League or Deadlock, it rarely makes sense to forfet very early.

This is happening in the United States’ backyard, and the US government is doing nothing to intervene other than complain about migrants.

Unless the Haitian government is willing to give significant control of the country over to the US, or pay for US weapons and mercinaries like Israel does theres not a lot they can reasonably do beyond providing financial aid and humanitarian support, as they have been. What else would you have them do, invade Haiti?

Do you know if it works anything like the Steam Deck's game mode? For example, could I potentially add shortcuts for Chrome with specific launch options, or maybe even Kodi? I tinkered with setting up shortcuts for non-Steam items on my SteamDeck and had a some success before, so if its similar, that would probably work well.q

I'd like to switch from a smart TV to an HTPC, but trying to navigate a standard desktop enviroment regularly with no desk is a royal pain. Is it realistically possible to set up an HTPC that won't require this for regular use? I expect it'd have to be controlled with a game controller, given that there is probably better (or the same) support compared to using a remote, but thats just a guess.

In particular, I'd like to be able to use a few of the larger streaming services, my own video files, and YouTube. Are there apps with controller (or remote) support for these? I'd also like to be able to browse the web when needed, or better yet, be able to cast to the TV from a phone.

For reference of my own skill level, I'm not tech illiterate by any means, I've worked in low-level IT jobs, but when people start talking about recompiling software or that, I tend to start getting lost.

There is an Avatar TTRPG and it faces similar problems to making a new game based on the series, and handles it similarly to what you're suggesting.

The TTRPG divides the setting into Eras, Kyoshi era with the nations still being established, Roku era with established nations, The Hundred Years War era taking place during the war but before Ang wakes, The Aang era, after the show and its sequel comics, and the Kora era taking place after TLoK and its comic trilogy. Notably, none take place during the events of the main series. This means that the can create new stories that better fit the medium and don't break cannon, and at the same time, you can still interact with significant characters and tie your story into the cannon such as making a quest resulting from the reprocusions of, or a prerequisite for events in the main canon.

Edit: clearly none of us read the article:

It'll put players in the role of an "all-new, never-before-seen Avatar" and take place thousands of years in the past.

What is this plant? (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by PlzGivHugs@sh.itjust.works to c/nostupidquestions@lemmy.world

It grows into vines a few feet long, not very tangly, that run along the ground and don't seem to climb. It seems to grow in large numbers of smaller vines that don't seem to be connected in the roots.

Its completely blanketing my garden, choking out even other weeds, trying to expand into my lawn, and growing almost as fast as I weed it.

I'm wondering what it is, and/or if there are any particularly good ways of dealing with it. I've been tilling the ground, flipping over the soil (down to roughly a foot) and putting a layer of mulch over it, but Im still having stuff grow back.

Edit: solved: its periwinkle.

A) flashy, loud, snippy content that works on people with no attention span or who are easily amused like kids (and annoys everyone else)

And B) clickbait-type, over-the-top content and games that no one else does - the sorts of things that, even if not high-brow, are still interesting. For example, blowing up a Lambrogini appealing to the action-movie lizard-brain, or a giant game of hide and seek appealing to the sort of person who daydreams about how to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Basically, its the peak of broad-appeal, low-brow, high effort/production value media.

How do you search Lemmy? (sh.itjust.works)
submitted 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) by PlzGivHugs@sh.itjust.works to c/nostupidquestions@lemmy.world

I've been trying to find any information on this at all without luck. 3rd party search engines like Google and DDG still don't have much of Lemmy indexed, and the built in search seems to just grab everything whether it matches the search or not. Is there search parameters you can use like Reddit's "title:" or "flair:", or some other way to effectively search?

I'm in a rental right now with a useless landlord, so I'm trying to fix the problem myself (or at least find the cause). My home's central air AC unit is working, but doesn't seem to be working well. There is cool air coming from the vents, but its less than I would expect, and when its 80f/27c outside, its rarely more than a single degree cooler. I'm looking for ideas to track down the problem. In particular, between the landlord's neglect and the last tenant's seemingly willful destruction I expect it'll be something maintenance related.

So far I have checked:

  • The unit size relative to the property (its about 2.5 tons for a 2,500 ft² property) which the internet seemed to say was fine. That said, its a bungalow with no attic and high-cielings, so Im not sure if that could have enough effect to account for this.

  • Intakes and outlets inside the out aren't blocked by furnature (although what I can see looking into them looks pretty dirty)

  • I tried removing the furnace filter (which, from my understanding, is also used by the AC inside the house) temporarily, although didn't notice a significant difference.

  • I checked the cooling fins on the unit outside the house for obstructions, but there was little more than a bit of webs

I'm not an expert on these things at all, but is there anything else I can check or try?

Edit: unfortunately there is some condensation and frost on the coil box, so sounds like its a leak. Guess I'm looking at a fight with my landlord.

Are there any good casual/low-stress mobile games that aren't filled with microtransactions? For example: easy puzzle games, match-3 games, low-difficulty adventure games, or clicker-style games.

So far, the only good examples I've found are Monument Valley, Suika Game, and (sort of) Vampire Survivors.

I'm personally looking for games that have more progression or variety, but any suggestions are welcome.

Skibidi Toilet is a serious of SFM shorts that became popular with young kids. Think in the same vein as the weird flash videos or early SFM videos that were popular with young kids 10-15 years ago. "Skibidi" doesn't mean anything and is just taken from that.

I get pretty easy depressed watching TV shows with a depressing tone or a lot of character deaths or that. If its more in the background its generally fine, but things like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, and The Boys are a lot for the moment. How does the new Fallout show compare?

Edit: Came back after watching it. Its depressing, but nowhere near as bad as people made it sound. No main character deaths, main characters do stupid stuff but are generally good people, and while things are grim and dark, there is hope for progress despite everything.

Tl;dr: The recent 7.6 magnitude earthquake was slightly beyond the rated limits of one plant but the plant wasn't running, and there was no damage done.

Probability. If something has a 50% chance of occuring, that does not mean it will happen every second time, and our brain has a very hard time rationalizing that. For example, we assume its near impossible to flip heads on a coin three times in a row when really, the probability is 12.5% - not that low. Another example would be something with a 95% chance of success - we naturally round up and assume thats basically garenteed success, but theres still a very decent chance of failure, esspecially on repeat attempts. Our brains are just not wired to handle randomness well, which is part of why gambling is so addicting and why games like X-Com have to rig the odds in the players favour to avoid pissing them off.

They added some bonus content including a mini-campaign originally bundled with other products, and added a bunch of QoL updates for modern systems (including but not limited to the Steam Deck).
