Thank for the information. i didn't know since i use vanilla os :)
Yes and no. The Art can be beautiful and the artist very gifted, i can recognize that part. It can also be related to their story, mood, society, environnement or not.
However, if they are shit toward human being, i boycott them just as any brand.
Well, i got some feedback, most creative people don't find gimp good, they won't switch.
Well dunno if it's because gimp lacks good tool that ease up their workflow or because we teached them adobe suite.
During my art course it was : adobe suite and autocad with 3d max.
But i knew blender, gimp and scribus way before entering art school because i disagree with adobe's licensing system and found it very expensive.
Imho, the current best creative software on linux is Blender. There is also Darktable and Rawtepee for light, contrast.
For inkscape, krita, i can't compare, i never used adobe illustrator, nor corel drawer.
Scribus is good, almost perfect but it lacks a very important feature that i can't replicate. Adobe Indesign is far more easier because of the guideline that tell ya this item is correctly aligned and has the same size.
Kdenlive, well featured but i find adding video effect easier on adobe premiere pro. And kdenlive had a lot stability issue, i lost my work several time and that's how i learned to setup automated save.
Autocad easily outmatched freecad, there were a huge difference in functionnalities. I don't know if it has changed since 10 years. It probably improved a lot.
I apologize for my english grammar.
Well, that depend a lot on how do you setup security.
On nextcloud, i can see which device are connected to it, who, when, where and i get alert mail. When you add a new devices, as it is in the settings you will need your password. You might want to extend this security to usb storage with an isolated environnement. So all you need is a dashboard.
The solution i suggest is also a security in case of hardware faillure. How many people do a backup and copy their important file regulary ? I think i'm just making their life easier by hardcoding it. For me it's as brushing my tooth, it's not mandatory, but it's better to make it mandatory.
My vision of the future is having an os that’ll install itself on any device I own whether the manufacturers want me to or not. I want to own the things I own.
Same but i differ. I don't want any kind of device to exist to reduce our footprint's carbon. Eg :
I would limit phones to 3 models and remove all brand. No ads needed, nor announcement. Something low tech. There would be lot benefit on the software side and repairability. It's easier to maitain and it leaves our hand free to improve the OS
No. You might want to move in a country where we don't tip ? 😅
There is also nextcloud deck. It's minimal but enough. Kanboard is also an alternative and there is another one but i forgot its name.
No, we shoudn't. Framasoft, the french libre software NGO published an interesting article about mastodon and twitter (in french). To sum up, the article tells us we shouldn't follow twitter footstep (it was before Elon Musk became the CEO) but embrace the fediverse.
So, imho, after reading their post, it is clear that we are just copy-pasting some proprietary software and it's a mistake because we may integrated some problematic design that were intended for analysis and ads purpose. And those proprietary software were a golden cage.
The fediverse is not lemmy, it's not mastodon. And the timeline is limited by its UI design to lemmyverse or mastodonverse. It shouldn't. We should open them more while having good moderating tool.
But firstly, Lemmy should improve their moderating tool. As a moderator in jlai.lu, and because our admin explained us various issues : the current state of Lemmy is worrying.
So until those matter aren't solved, i don't want to see any community's grow bigger nor openness to the fediverse because we aren't ready and can't protect other communities in the fediverse.
Steamdeck will be a good replacement for a gaming laptop and less expensive. Mine is 1 year old. Almost every games work well on Linux thank to Valve and Wine, i don't see any problems with your games. And you can emulate old game on Linux but i never tried it.
There is some issue :
- you can't play Kenshi, City Skyline. You will need a dock, keyboard and maybe a bigger screen.
- Some game use a launcher that will block ya from playing it. Hence why some player decide to install Windows. (Blame the editor, not Valve)
- The Steamdeck handle well AAA title but it will drain its battery quickly. Elden ring can last 2h i think.
And imho, you should never install Windows. Why ? To increase Linux market share. So game editor will work on their launcher and make them compatible with Linux. And there is plenty gaming console on Windows, lot PC on windows. Windows's gamers have plenty options (ROG). So just for this one, we should accept the Steamdeck as a Linux gaming machine, for once.
Mmm, on verra bien.
Sorry my english is rusty.
I don't think it is an outdated pathologisation. I suffered a lot from depression and loneliness partly because of my deafness. I was born profoundly deaf and wear hearing aid since 3 years old. At 30 year old i decided to experience the cochlear implant because i was stuck in my life. It has only been two month since its activation and i'm starting to see its benefit.
It depend on each one situation, it's a balance between risk and benefit and, for me, the cochlear implant outweight the risk.
A culture is based on language. It shape your way of thinking, create a structure, define color...So when you speak, you share a common culture.
Deaf people created another language to compensate their hearing lost and communicate between themselve : sign language. Their culture is based on the lost of their hearing sens. That's one of the reason we call them "Deaf community". Not Deaf people.
So when parents decide to help their kids with the cochlear implant, without teaching sign language, it do endanger Deaf communities.
However, if i had deaf kids, i would give them the cochlear implant because it is much more powerful compared to hearing aid and i want to give them the best life experience and the best education. The education for deaf people is poor compared to hearing one due to a lack of bilingual teachers and school fund.
There is a huge lack of content in sign language. Have you ever seen a wikipedia page in sign language ? Futhermore lot deaf people i have met doesn't know to write a correct sentence since there is a lack of bilingual teachers. So lot of them can't do an university course and call a tird person for help.
I would also give to my kids sign language because, even with the technological progress, they are still Deaf. It won't cure their deafness. If their cochlear implant break or its production end, they will be able to live on and sign and discover deaf community and their beautiful culture.
Most of parent haven't met Deaf people, they don't know sign language. I think they are affraid, worried. There is a lack of information. Anyway, they did the best they could do with the information given to them at the present time. During my reeducation session, I met a mother of two young implanted kids. She was very very happy to met me, a Deaf adulte. Because i speak, i sign and i shared my life experience. She wanted to know what do they hear. She wanted to know their experience : "It is the same sound as myself ?"
So, in some way, i showed her that her kids can do it. It reassured her for their futur.
