That's a really good analysis! I totally see what you mean!

So basically you're saying nothing changes if they shut down.

We don't need everyone, just enough. Also there can be a time it happens.

I think they are giving it their all because they think it's their last chance. If we stay strong, united and focused we can defeat it.

Thank you for letting me know about that. I updated my comment.

You're right! That's why it's so urgent to take action against disinformation. I just left a comment with some ideas for what people can do to deal with the Twitter problem. As you just said millions are getting killed. What I suggest could just take a minute or two of your time and it will help slow down the spread of disinformation.

After seeing AOC's post I feel Twitter should be banned. Until that happens there are things we can do that are simple and effective:

For people who have a Twitter account:

  • Switch to Bluesky and make a Tweet saying you are now on Bluesky and no longer post on Twitter. Note that per Furball's comment if you use the word Bluesky in your Tweet it will be hidden. Be sure to censor the word or use a screenshot.
  • If you have no choice but to use Twitter install an adblocker such as uBlock Origin. Also review your privacy settings.
  • Leave a 1 star review on the app store for the "X" (Twitter) app.

Things everyone can do even if you don't have a Twitter account:

  • Help your friends who are still on Twitter migrate away.
  • Urge companies, governments, organizations, celebrities and other large accounts to make a Bluesky account and phase out the use of Twitter. They can start by posting on both to make the migration easier.
  • If you're writing an article or posting on Lemmy, Reddit or other websites prefer linking and screenshooting Twitter alternatives such as Bluesky, Mastodon and Threads instead of Twitter when possible. This is also good for your readers because Twitter makes it hard to read Tweets without logging in.
  • Contact people in your government and urge Twitter be banned.

That would be amazing! Yes, that's better than what I was thinking.

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 2 points 3 days ago

Your last sentence made me realize something. You're right that if you target one business they will go to another but that's a feature not a bug. The goal is it's a negotiation. Demand better working conditions and stop funding corrupt politicians and then we will return back to work. The company won't want to go out of business so hopefully they would agree.

Regarding living paycheck to paycheck that's why I mentioned the mutual aid network. I know most people can't stop working for very long, that's why there would need to be some kind of group to support this.

Regarding labels like socialism or communism, I'm not advocating for that. I just hope for better wages, working conditions and less corruption in politics.

[-] WeUnite@lemm.ee 4 points 3 days ago

I agree with you. Imagine if people built a mutual aid network designed to sustain people for maybe 6-12 months and the country just went on strike. People stop showing up to work everywhere in protest of the oligarchy.

I'm really impressed by the courage of the Amazon workers who are going on strike. I was thinking what if one of the conditions of the strikers is that Amazon stops funding Republicans. Then I realized more broadly what if workers in all companies went on strike and demanded that the companies no longer funded Republican candidates. What are your thoughts on this?

No country is safe from Elon Musk's election interference. It's urgent that we boycott Twitter and Tesla. If you have a Twitter account do the following now:

  1. Send a DM to your favorite accounts and urge them to stop using Twitter.
  2. (If you haven't already) register for Bluesky.
  3. Make a Tweet saying you are no longer using Twitter.
  4. Tell your friends to follow the same instructions.

These could take as little as five minutes of your time but it will make a huge difference because of the ripple effect. When one person leaves it will automatically incentivize your friends to follow you. You have the power to make a difference.

Please understand this post is my personal opinion and is not financial advice. I don't have any investing experience so this could be wrong.

Today I was thinking about Tesla. Tesla's stock has for a long time had some kind of weird cult status among retail investors and the stock has been a lot higher than other car companies for reasons I don't understand.

It seems Musk has alienated everyone with Tesla's cars. People on the left are not going to want a Tesla because it funds Musk's far right extreme agenda. People on the right are not going to be all of a sudden in favor of electric cars and I know this from talking to Trump supporters in real life.

As long as Musk is running TSLA I don't see how Tesla will be sustainable if no one buys their cars anymore. I predict that as people get more frustrated with Musk the stock will start to go down.

In addition another risk to TSLA is starting to become known for poor quality and high prices. Basically you'll be stuck with an expensive car that most people won't be willing to repair for you.

Theoretically speaking if there was to be a large scale selling of TSLA and boycott of TSLA it would make Elon worth a lot less meaning he won't be able to influence as many elections.

Perhaps now would be a good time to sell the stock and urge your friends and maybe even hedge fund managers to do the same thing.

For Musk free speech is code word for "things I agree with"

Elon Musk's extreme agenda is a threat to the world. He helped elect someone who's going to take away our rights and try to become a dictator and despite his wealth doubling after the election his greed and thirst for power isn't and never will be satisfied. He wants to do the same in the UK. Very likely he will try to consolidate and gain power and wealth globally.

I've been brain storming ideas of what we can do to deal with him and here is what I came up with.

  1. Do what you can to get as many people off Twitter/X as possible. Since he has control over Twitter he manipulates the algorithm to boost himself and his interests. It's great if you can tell anyone you know to stop using Twitter but what would have a bigger impact is if large accounts and institutions stopped using Twitter. Try leaving a comment on their page about why using Twitter is bad. This will also have a benefit that other people will see you comment. You can also send a DM to their account.

  2. Try to get your country to ban Twitter/X. There's a petition to get X banned in the EU. This could be important for the survival of your country. Musk could show you propaganda that's bad for your country so banning X would be a good idea.

  3. Contact advertisers on Twitter and demand they stop advertising. Send screenshots of their ads next to neo-Nazi and extreme content to the people who paid for the ads. They will not be happy seeing their ads next to that kind of content.

  4. Mass simultaneous strike or resignations at his companies especially Twitter. I think this one might be the most powerful one. Imagine if most employees all of a sudden stopped working or quit. Maybe a lot of employees could quit and start a rival company. The sad thing about Elon's companies is there are many smart, talented and hardworking people who don't get the credit for all they put into working for Elon. Also I'd highly recommend this article about turnover contagion.

  5. Investigate and sue for any illegal activity. Analyze everything he and his companies do under a microscope and if he did something illegal make sure he faces justice for it. Hold him accountable in all countries, not just the US.

  6. Boycott of his products. Make sure to not only boycott his product but do everything you can so other people also boycott. The less money Elon has, the less power he has.

I would love to hear your thoughts on how we can stop Elon Musk. If you have any ideas on how these ideas could be implemented or have ideas of your own please do share!
