Less than two weeks before he dropped out, he wrote an open letter to congressional democrats in which he wrote:

I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump.

I have heard the concerns that people have — their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them.

I can respond to all this by saying clearly and unequivocally: I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.

The voters of the Democratic Party have voted. They have chosen me to be the nominee of the party. Do we now just say this process didn’t matter? That the voters don’t have a say?

I decline to do that... I have no doubt that I — and we — can and will beat Donald Trump.

Unless this was all part of an elaborate hoax, it's clear he had no intention of dropping out at that time.

They've pinned their hopes on her, because who else can they turn to? If your priority is campaigning for an end to the genocide, then of course you'd say that.

Sadly, her national security advisor just tweeted this today, so I'd say those of us who predicted Harris would just take Biden's policy and give it a more sympathetic face are already looking to be proven correct:

Elections bring these issues into sharp relief, so of course people are talking about it -- especially since this particular election features the two most deeply unpopular candidates in US history.

It's never the wrong time to condemn the two-party duopoly for the facade of democracy that it is, or point out that the sentiments and circumstances that led to the rise of Trump need to be tackled at their roots before they go away.

Even if Biden somehow manages to beat Trump in November, there will be no meaningful political change until the dominance of the corporate two-party system is broken up and the financial burdens of the working classes are alleviated.

Stock Gnome has this too.

I'd say a good-sized part of it is simply the American preference for watching beautiful, weathly people doing beautiful, wealthy people things. Hollywood rom-coms and US TV shows in general clearly skew towards upper middle class settings when compared to the equivalents from, say, the UK.

In other words, I reckon US media prefer their fictional characters to be aspirational whereas other cultures prefer theirs to be relatable.

My armchair-psychologist explanation is because Trump is a textbook narcissist.

Individuals with Narcissistic Personality Disorder typically have a fragile self-esteem and a high sensitivity to perceived slights or criticisms. When they feel wronged or humiliated, they often react with intense anger and a desire for retribution in order to restore their self-image and sense of superiority.

Each to their own.

Gnome with GTK4 + adw-gtk3 looks far cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing than Plasma + Breeze, IMO.

Are you LARPing as a Fox News viewer, or is that a genuine question?

You guys have my sympathy. I'm a pretty strong critic of Apple and their products but I'd never go out of my way to interfere with communities of Apple users. That's just kinda pathetic.

Unfortunately, I don't see that there's much you can do about this apart from strictly moderate the comments section and just try to ignore the up/downvote discrepancies.

That's a yikes! from me, dawg.

Seriously - pretty much every single TV news network in the US is just a constant flow of editorialized garbage and shoddy journalism. It's more than a little depressing to consider that millions of people base their their view of politics on it.
