The proposal was submitted by the Russian Federation shortly after they attacked Ukraine, back when Russia was still claiming that "de-nazifying" Ukraine was the purpose of the invasion.

Several delegates took to the floor to express concerns over Moscow’s attempt to exploit the pretext of combating neo-Nazism to justify its brutal war against Ukraine, with Ukraine’s delegate asserting that the draft has nothing in common with the genuine fight against Nazism and neo-Nazism. Echoing his concerns, the United Kingdom’s delegate stressed that the resolution is part of Moscow’s attempt to justify its aggression against Ukraine by furthering lies and distorting history.

The United States’ delegate called the resolution “a cynical attempt” of Moscow to further its geopolitical aims by invoking the Holocaust and Second World War. In the same vein, Australia’s delegate called Moscow’s weaponization of the Holocaust and Nazism unacceptable.

You're assuming that the goal is to shock Russians. Other possible goals are:

  1. Force Russia into a "dilemma" where it has to stop the offensive in Donetsk to deal with the attack
  2. Strike targets deeper in Russia
  3. Cause economic strain for Russia by capturing/disabling key infrastructure like the Kursk powerplant
  4. Flank Russian forces in Luhansk
  5. Capture and hold Russian land to use as a bargaining chip
  6. Humiliate Putin

Which of these goals are the reasons for this incursion are unknown outside of Ukraine's command structure.

Yeah he banned bump stocks after the Las Vegas shooting, but then the supreme court found in the text of the constitution the part where they say you can't ban bump stocks and reversed it.

Honestly this seems like a way to back-door inject another $800 million into the failing starship program.

Hacker news is full of people LARPing as corporate crisis management officers, or counsels for the defense. Every post you get about "company caught grinding up babies to fuel forever-chemical cancer machine" will get a ton of posts by people arguing that actually it's a net positive for the world and how could anyone be against such amazing innovation?

So many "unacceptable" things Israel does always just seem to get accepted.

Even the standard "sternly written letter" gets vetoed.

This strategy is called "Starve the beast."

They destroy a public service by under-funding it, then insist that the only way to fix it is to privatize.

It seemed like his strategy of running through the trees in tight circles was successful and might have worked if he hadn't stopped. I guess he got tired, but if he had kept it up for a while longer the drone operator might have screwed up and hit a tree or ran out of battery.
