My most stereotypical special interest (in that it's something really random that you might assume there's not a lot of depth to) is artificial lighting technology.

But I have a lot of stuff I could infodump about: computers, video games, TTRPGs, world building, neurology, etc.

I don't watch TV, not even streaming.

There's an opportunity cost associated with using land for parking, particularly in dense urban areas.

In many cases a parking spot uses more space than the person who parked there uses to do their job (if they work in a cubicle for example). But they also need to be able to park not just at their job, but at their home, at the store, at their doctor's office, etc. In the US there can be as many as 8 parking spaces per car, which collectively take up one third of the urban area.

If you're curious:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zombo.com

Back in 1999 a lot of websites would consist of a full-page Adobe Flash program (something that no longer works in modern browsers) a bit like how a lot of websites now are basically JavaScript apps. Because the speed of internet connections was so low back then it could take a long time for those flash apps to load all their content, so while you were waiting they might play a little animation or something that served as an "intro".

Zombo com was a parody of those websites. There was no actual content, it just played a really really long intro that consisted of colorful blinking circles and audio of a guy saying variations of "welcome to zombo com, you can do anything here, anything at all" over and over again.

I asked them to support JPEGXL by default.

I'm not trying to be mean when I say this, but to me your comment sounds a little bit like "I know you guys are starving but if you ever solve that issue make sure you don't go too far in the other direction. I sometimes buy food that I don't end up using, which is fairly pointless."

I wish the biggest grievance I had with my country's politics was that some of the parties are redundant. I think I'd be willing to give up a limb or two for that actually.

It's intentionally stupid, which is why it's not a permanent change.

They just want people to talk about it, send pictures of it to their friends, etc, and be an avenue for reminding people that goldfish crackers exist.

They've done that periodically for years.

I don't dual boot anymore but when I did I kept each installation on a separate hard drive for that reason.

While I agree that it's somewhat bad that there is no distinction between lossless and lossy jxl in the file extension, I think it's really not a big deal compared to the present situation with jpg/png.

The reason being that if you download a png file you have no idea if its been converted from jpg, if it's a screenshot of a jpg, or if it's been subjected to lossy reencoding by a tool or a website upload process.

The only thing you can really do to try and see if the file you've downloaded has suffered encoding loss is to do an image search on it and see if there are any better quality versions out there. You'd do the exact same thing with a jxl file.

I don't know about the wine or cheese but I have to disagree with you on the bread thing.

There are people that make multigrain, wholegrain, sourdough, etc bread based on medieval recipes and while they're not wonderbread they're also not unrecognizable as bread to a modern person and they're not terrible either. There are even people who buy the grains and stone grind it themselves to make it more authentic.

For another comparison do a Google image search of "Arnold in his prime". Now imagine seeing a dude who looks like that and being told "be careful, that guy has no concept of human laws or morality, he won't go out of his way to kill you but if he did it wouldn't bother him one bit. Also he doesn't speak English.".

I think most would be pretty unlikely to just walk up and run their fingers through that dude's hair. But Arnold in his prime only weighed 240 lbs. An adult male bison can weigh anywhere from 1000 to 2200 lbs.
