Indeed, the Chinese state has prohibited basic demonstrations of solidarity with Palestine, confiscating Palestinian flags displayed publicly and preventing mobilizations in support of Gaza.

when demonstrations of solidarity with palestine happens in the united states; the protesters get labeled as antisemites and experience legal & financial repercussions if they're identified or students and; if they're students; they confiscate palestinian flags displayed publically and are prevented from mobilizing in support of gaza.

china's response is to ban everything & the american's response is to ruin your life; they're both iron fisted responses. people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and i'd rather be told "no" than no longer be able to buy food or have a roof over my head because no one will hire me because of a bullshit label like antisemite for demonstrating against a genocide.

i'd like to see more built in commands along the same vein as bash added features to sh.

i know it's possible to install something through your package manager; add it to your shell config; and simply source your environment; but there's something to be said about installing a single terminal emulator and having everything ready the go.

the closest thing i found to this a commercial terminal emulator named zoc and i don't see a reason why it's not already a foss thing.

i always thought that marx was a bit ethnocentric in beliefs that only europeans could bring about change and now i wonder how much of what i learned in the past was also wrong.

little things like this made me like carter; but i still have difficulty understanding why so many are worshiping a caricature of him.

he was a democrat from the 70's so that makes him more liberal than today's democrats; but he's almost the same generation as biden and he's not that different.

I wish the .worlders & lemmee's would open up a book to learn this for themselves.

Anecdotally: the night Mozilla builds were a godsend when I couldn't afford decent hardware.

Also anecdotally and professionally: when you have a client that insists on using source like most software companies do nowadays; you can use that source along with something like a hash to keep them honest and prevent them from leaving you holding the bag when shtf. (ask me how I know this works. Lol)

We're already starting to forget about Luigi; I doubt liberals care after another minute.

Funny to see the propaganda machine backfire.

The maga-ites in my family tried to employ a strategy shared on conservative social media, through my father to pressure me to keep my "commie" mouth shut and it backfired on them because they're unaware that I've been lending him the rent & medical bill money that they've refused to lend him. (He doesn't know that they're gifts that I never expect to get back).

I still think I'm lucky since they were at least willing to walk in egg shells around me while I visited out of fear of permanently alienating me like they did to my mother and sister.

However things will change if they ever realize that they need to help Dad/Grandpa/great-grandpa rather than buying a new mustang or buying a bigger house for themselves.

They're libertarian crypto bros now.

Like all the m/l dialectics say: your environment determines your politics.

Lemmy is teaching me things by accident.

Most recently; I've started learning media literacy and now I can see all the same manufactured consent and narrative shaping that exists in legacy media and social media like Facebook and reddit; but in .world and lemmee too

Why “foreign” bad actors? Reddit is a US company and has “former” CIA in high-up positions. The site is heavily astroturfed by US military and intelligence.

i had this same thought and it's clear that posts like these are meant to frame the conversations so that it we only talk about the foreign bad actors and not the american or western bad actors.

seeing these bots and shills expand into lemmy; especially throughout .world is bone chililng to me sometimes because it makes it clear how thoroughly well this slop sells to the american people.
