Well, that explains the memes.

Try Friendica first. If it's not your cup of tea, here are a few others:

  • Firefish
  • Mastodon
  • Akkoma
  • GNU Social
  • diaspora*
  • Hubzilla

Then there's me, reinstalling the OS because it's quicker than installing the three months' worth of updates I forgot about.

Yeah, I switched to Invidious a long time ago. If you want an app, I'd also recommend NewPipe (for Android), and either Yattee (for iOS) or Piped (as a PWA).

That's an oxymoron.

Is it bad that I'm becoming numb to losing my digital rights?

I thought it was still open; just not free/libre?

There are normally config files for GTK at ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini.

Qt themes are configured differently. For Qt5 and Qt6, set the environment variable QT_STYLE_OVERRIDE. If you still use Qt4 for anything, config is done in ~/.config/Trolltech.conf. Refer to the ArchWiki for help.

I personally prefer GUIs, though, so I'd recommend the following:

  • For GTK 2 & 3: LXAppearance
  • For GTK 3 & 4: Gradience
  • For Qt: qt5ct, qt6ct, and/or Kvantum

We want search engines. GPT-3.5 has a knowledge cutoff in 2021, so I only really use it for software recommendations and text/code formatting.

Oh fuck off, you absolute nitwit.

On iOS and macOS, it's hard to beat NetNewsWire.

On Android, I use Feeder.

On Windows and Linux, go for QuiteRSS.

Not only that, but it works fine when I request the desktop version. Wonder why...

I'm looking for some online calendar software, which uses CalDAV.

I currently use TheGood.Cloud (a public NextCloud instance), but it's unencrypted and a tad slow where I am. I also used to use fruux.

For to-do lists, I currently use Todo.txt, but I am moving to Vikunja.

Is there anything out there?

I'd also like to make it clear that I AM IN NO POSITION TO SELF-HOST. At least, I won't be for a long time.

Thanks!

Thought I'd post the PeerTube version.

I have a meme account on Instagram, which I'd like to also have on the Fediverse. Can anyone recommend me a Pixelfed instance for this? Or maybe another type of server?

I'd like a way of sharing playlists that I make, but I don't want to use Spotify or YouTube. Is there something free (as in freedom and as in cost) and open-source, which is better than burning a CD or sending someone a playlist.txt?

I have a fairly large music collection, which is 9.9 GB in size. It's mainly made up of MP3 files, with some OGG Vorbis files and a handful of WAV and WMA files. I would like to convert the entire library to AAC (or a better format, if there is one) in order to reduce the size of my collection by a considerable amount.

My library is organised using this folder structure:

~/Music/{Artist}/{Album}/{Track}

Can anyone recommend a GUI tool or shellscript which would recursively convert the files, map across the metadata, and dump the files into a different folder with the same directory structure?

EDIT: I have used a script to convert everything to Opus. Problem solved, just working out the kinks now.
