I think the rest of the world should buy the subsidized Chinese solar cells, the Chinese government will go bankrupt and the rest of the world will get cheaper, cleaner energy.

We (Boston) have bicycle repair stations, that give you the chance to put the bike up on a stand and use some basic tools. They are along cycle paths. The air pumps unfortunately are almost always out of service.
Asia has less of a safety net than the US, and I'm guessing that Asians are less lonely than Americans. I think culture, for example extended families living together as a norm, has a bigger role.
The atmosphere causes almost all meteorites to burn up before hitting the surface, I imagine that the same holds for space debris. So the concern about space debris hitting your house seems to be more about drawing attention to the very real problem of space debris to orbiting satellites.
