Thank you for the idea! I didn't know about the --inodes flag before, this seems like a viable solution for systems where I can't / don't want to install additional software!

Oh, wow, thank you! I had ncdu installed, but it was an older version, which didn't yet have this feature. Now that I updated to the newest (Zig based ๐ŸŽ‰) release this looks perfect for my needs!

There are plenty of utilities (GUI, such as filelight and TUI, such as dua as well) for analyzing disk usage by space, but I would like to view my folders based on the count of files, as I'm making backups, and folders with lots of small files (e.g. node_modules) take very long to move around, so I guess that I'd be better of compressing those into a single file before archiving, as it's already highly unlikely that I'll need to access them anyway. Thanks for any pointers in advance!

Well, I'd suggest asking around your nearest toddler, that's how I managed to borrow this one. ๐Ÿ˜€ Probably it has been inherited through several generations, that might explain it's wisdom!

Thanks for the advice, but lo and behold, the issue was actually caused by a newly introduced generic parameter not being defined after a dependency update. ๐Ÿ™ƒ Oh, the wonders of the JS/TS ecosystem...

Whoa, I just checked out some images, that one is on another level as well for sure. ๐Ÿ˜€ If he's as good at fighting bugs as criminals, you're in good ~~hands~~ wings!

If the rolling wooden variant still turns out not to be enough, I might need to source a real live duck. ๐Ÿฆ† Not sure how patient that would be at listening to me explaining code though. ๐Ÿค”

The idea was from here: https://nitter.net/redditmechbot/status/979515586467201024 (The original reddit post has since been deleted.), but imagine the same with the Genius Numpad i100, which can be had for around the equivalent of $10 here. ๐Ÿ˜€

This isn't long-term though, I just had it lying around and figured out how to make it work using evsieve to combine two keyboards into one and kanata to create the mapping. I am planning on building a piantor for myself, I just wanted to check if I could get used to an ortholinear 36 or 34 key layout, and so far it looks like I can adjust well.

1.) I'm using wayland (river as a compositor at this point), and have not set up a key combo for riverctl exit in fear of an accidental trigger, but it might actually be a good idea.
2.) As far as I know, that only applies to the VTTYs.
3.) Setting up a screen locker program does seem like a good option for preventing unwanted input (which can occur for other reasons as well, such as my one year old son ๐Ÿ˜€) without potential loss of work / data! Is swaylock the go to solution for this nowadays?

Oh man, did that feel like a long time until I managed to get there... Adding insult to injury was that every step took two tries. First I didn't type my username for ssh, which resulted in the default termux user being used, so I had to cancel that and try again. After that I tried pkill kanata, which responded with killing pid ... failed: Operation not permitted, which made me realize, that it's running as root, so I need to use sudo to stop it.

All this time I was hammering C-c with my other hand and keeping an eye on the screen as well to see what is happening. ๐Ÿ˜ถ

Wow, this reflects quite well on the feelings! ๐Ÿ˜„ Also, it shows that it could've been much worse. ๐Ÿ˜

Glad you liked it! ๐Ÿ˜€
Being able to at least entertain people by sharing my misfortune makes it more bearable. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Yes, this keyboard idea was quite a rollercoaster, because at first I blamed myself for not pulling it, but then I realized, that it wouldn't have helped even if I did, as Kanata keeps running just fine with the bound input device removed. ๐Ÿ™ƒ

(Edit: Oh, sorry, you meant the power cable! ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ)

After getting a comment from the creator of kanata (an awesome piece of software by the way) that he found my story amusing, I figured that I'd also post it here, partly as fun, partly as a cautionary tale. Also, I'd appreciate any tips as to what to check for in my system, it's a weird feeling to know that some stuff might have been messed up under the hood.

Lots of great extensions have been listed already, but here's one that I haven't seen mentioned yet and I really like: https://unhook.app/
