If people don’t watch, then there’s fundamentally no money to be given to the players. If you want money to be given to the player, you need to watch.

That’s how it works for women’s sports, and that’s how it works for men’s sports as well.

Pay for all athletes is dictated by the viewership they bring in, not their performance. WNBA players actually make disproportionately more relative to viewership.

You honestly talk like someone who’s never watched a sport in their life.

Lemmy ain’t gonna like this. Ain’t gonna like it one bit.

Banging song tbh, gotta give it a pass based on that alone.

That image is quite a niche scenario and doesn’t represent the situation in the original image.

Obviously it’s different with a group of eight compared to just two people…

The same reason anyone buys anything that they don’t use, they think they’ll enjoy it but in reality they don’t find time or lose interest.

I also have that issue, so I try and focus on not going too far down the rabbit hole if it’s not relevant.

If I’m speaking to my boss I’ll say:

“This happens because of that, I’m gonna fix that”

As opposed to:

“What’s happening is X does Y, then Z occurs. That’s because of the A and B not being quite right, because B is blah blah blah. I thought about trying option 1, but that doesn’t work because blah, option 2 doesn’t work either because blah, but option 3 works because of blah blah blah.”

If they don’t need that info, then you don’t need to share it.

It’s always hypothetical rabbit holes 🙄

They think they’re like Doctor Strange trying to map out every conceivable future

Clickbait used to be reserved for the title/thumbnail, but now it’s ingrained in the content itself and goes hand in hand with the drop in quality.

Before I stopped watching them I noticed the drop in quality. Can’t remember which video, but there was one with so many corrections it was absolutely ridiculous.

strict rules around policing social media content, with high financial penalties and prison time for individual tech execs if the firms fail to comply.

The dream.

One clause that has proved particularly controversial is a proposal that encrypted messages, which includes those sent on WhatsApp, can be read and handed over to law enforcement

The nightmare. It would probably catch some people out, but I imagine most criminals who aren’t idiots would just find another way to encrypt messages if they’re doing some seriously illegal stuff.

They can’t stop people from generating PGP keys, so really it only undermines the data privacy of the average person.

I don’t understand Lemmy’s hate boner over AI.

Yeah, it’s probably not going to take over like companies/investors want, but you’d think it’s absolutely useless based on the comments on any AI post.

Meanwhile, people are actively making use of ChatGPT and finding it to be a very useful tool. But because sometimes it gives an incorrect response that people screenshot and post to Twitter, it’s apparently absolute trash…

Yeah, then it totally would’ve worked and had no other issues
