It's crazy how much better things are now. I had the same reaction some weeks ago when I wanted to play Leathal Company with friends and remembered I'm on Linux while they all used some 3rd party Windows only mod manager. One day later I found r2modman in the AUR which automatically recognized Steam + Proton and everything just ran. And there is even a Titanfall 2 cross platform mod program!!!! The sofware support just keeps getting better every day.

I use it since maybe a year now on Android and it's amazing. The toggeling of the overlay and weird zap objects/overlays function takes some getting used too but otherwise its just like on the Desktop.

A friend recommended it to mee because Ubuntu packages were hard to edit/create and the versions were always out of date. So I used XFCE and later the KDE edition and had no really big issues (since the forum if something broke always had a workaround). Ngl there were some stupid issues like 3 times (Nvidia GPU user yay!) but other than that the Desktop Experience, Windows Dual Boot, Gaming, Custom packages in minutes were perfect. Pacman is just a beast so I recommend any distro that ships with that.

(This is from the perspective of a Desktop user)
