In my case, 50.251.249.54 is my gateway and .48 my broadcast. I am static routed so no NAT.

That said, we did an experiment in a physics class many years ago where by there was a beeper and an electromagnet that were powered by the same source. The electromagnet held a yard stick in place. When the beeper went off we were supposed to push a button in response. The button stopped the fall of the yardstick. Then by calculating how far the yard stick fell using the 32m/s^2 speed of gravitational acceleration we calculated how long response was, average was about 200ms, I responsed in 30ms, however this only works for me for auditory queues, visual is more delayed for me, and I can't detect any change in under 20ms and just barely at that, let alone respond to it. But what I learned in that class was that reaction times varied individual to individual by a factor of about ten, so what is true for one person may not be for another.

@lancalot I run an ISP so quite a few servers thus though anacdotal, not a super tiny sample. And again I think it's an important point to consider but a lot has to do with how much effort you are going to put into customization. If your use is very generic, install and go, then no big deal, but if you spend a lot of time fine tuning and installing apps you have to get from third parties and compile yourself then a re-install is a big deal. I find myself often in the latter situation so it is important to me, to someone else perhaps not. For me windows is like the former situation, all I do with Windows is play games, and it takes me maybe 1/2 hour to install the games so do I care about a re-install of Windows? Not really.
@griefstricken @Draconic_NEO I've seen more trolling from lemmy hosts than anything else here recently. I was going to add a lemmy site to my social media sites but this has convinced me that perhaps now is not the time. This time last year mastodon was a big problem but it has settled down, perhaps lemmy will in the future.

@possiblylinux127 @evasync I can't speak for them, but I've had btrfs blow up in ways I could not fix. I didn't just lose a file but the entire file system. I have NEVER had this happen in many years with ext4.

@naeap As long as it remains the easiest distro for me to get from initial setup to mangled the way I want it to work I'll stick with Ubuntu. It still tends to be more up to date than most other releases save Fedora but I do not care for the Redhat approach at all, they are rather like Windows in trying to force you to do it there way, "thou shall use LDAP and not NIS" for example. I don't like distros that think I should change my whole organization to suit their needs. Yea at some point I probably will switch to LDAP but will do it on my own terms in my own time not dictated by a distribution vendor. It is rather trivial for me to excise snap from Ubuntu, a lot more work to hack NIS into a system that doesn't natively support it.
