We can generate AI images, we can generate AI text, but text in an image is a no go?

So if Google sold its phones at a loss then Epic would have no problem paying the fee? Sure.

The more interesting part of the argument is saying that people will contact Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony for technical support with a game and expect them to help while Apple or Google would send you to the developer.

I think there are two big reasons...

  • During the big Reddit exodus, a lot of people were recommending lemmy.world.
  • It's a general purpose instance. People tend to flock to those rather than more specific topical instances.

For-profit health insurance just makes no sense. This is the expected behavior of a for-profit insurance system.

My problem with this whole thing is that Chrome's only real competition (meaning it's not based on Chromium) is funded nearly entirely by Google paying to be the default search engine. If you aren't going to allow search engines to pay to be the default then Mozilla needs to find a completely different way to make money.

Holy crap, apple charges $200 to add 8GB of RAM. I just bought 32GB of DDR5 for the Framework I have on order for $95.

I recently switched my server over to running Plex and Home Assistant in Docker. I like the ease of transfer (just move my compose file and one directory where I have stored all the configs and I'm set) as well as the simple permissions management to give access to directories.

I have only used Fedora briefly, but I am considering it instead of my usual openSUSE because it is "officially supported" for the Framework 13 I have on order. I saw the immutable versions and the idea seems cool though I don't really understand what new I would need to learn or really what benefits it would have.

Is the concept overkill for a single-user laptop?

Xfce does not get updated often, so by that definition it is the most stable.

It's also pretty stable from the perspective of not crashing, but I can't say I've had much trouble with KDE either.

A lot of them seem to be "free" with an optional subscription.

I was always a huge fan of the Guild Wars Mad King event. GW2 took it to the next level with a lot of fun activities.

What games have seasonal events that you enjoy?

I agree that quality matters, but when we have a number of active communities where the content is supplied by bots I don't know that I'd say we're winning on quality.

More users means more people contributing instead of bots.

Well, it would change their experience. They would see improved photo quality to/from Android users via text messages. But Apple has managed to train people to think that Apple's refusal to put iMessage on other devices is somehow a shortcoming of Android.

Cool, now can we get a cheaper plan that just plays music?

[-] raptir@lemdro.id 52 points 1 year ago

There are no circumstances under which I would be okay with it. Including ads means there is a chance that content is removed to appease advertisers.

I will happily donate to my instance once they start accepting donations.

Keyed my car. I'm not kidding. She keyed a message into the side of my car thinking it would get me back.

I was on Play Music/YouTube Music for years and ultimately switched to Spotify as I found that YTM didn't have accurate information about obscure artists. For some obscure bands I like it either had no information (and so playing radio of them would just play their own music, or unrelated music I like) or poor information (and would play music that wasn't really similar). It also became "over-personalized" - for example, on my wife's account it would only play power metal if I played Blind Guardian radio, but on my account it would play death metal and stuff that's somewhat related but not particularly.

Spotify has been better on the first front as they have a better database of music, but still has issues with the second. I'm also frustrated with the number of ads I still get despite paying - not audio ads, but popups and such for concerts, or recommended podcasts or whatever while browsing.

Any recommendations? I tried Deezer but found that they have pretty poor info about artists - with very dissimilar artists being noted as similar.

By the same token, I don't see a big deal about the pronoun choice. Just choose She/Her or He/Him. You don't have to choose They/Their.

I'm in the market for a new laptop. I'm currently considering the Framework 16 but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should look at. The System 76 Adder WS seems like a better value, but I'm hesitant to buy Nvidia.

I don't need anything super portable, just looking for a decently powerful laptop for some gaming and other basic tasks. I use openSUSE TW but even with the Nvidia repo I've had issues with Nvidia graphics.
