I got used to XFCE, but, with my new awesome Tuxedo laptop, I got KDE as a DE for a stock OS, and I could say it feels much more complete. But the performance drops, when opening a terminal, for example.

Paid subscription is not as bad as it sounds. Your software can be FOSS, yet you have a side business that hosts a server with that software, without any additional configuration. This is what WordPress.com or element.io do, they are hosting SaaS of free software.

For inkjet cartridges, I don't know, but, technically speaking, these cartridges get dry after the first time of use and their 'needles', that spray ink, become dirty. I had a bad luck washing the spraying mechanism after that.
Most people mentioned social media here, but I think it's the software that adjusts and auto-personalizes the content according to the live user's interactions. Good software was never meant to have that. Good software is meant to have good UX and UI, but not auto-tailoring to user's needs.
I follow the principles of 'if I need to change the design, I do it myself'. The best practice would be the special options where I could customize my software, like 'Customize Firefox'. Some IDEs also have a field to play around. No A/B testing to individual groups, no personalized feeds, ability to disable or adjust the settings.
