I'm still getting paid by check.

France, public administration.

I moan absolutely every time, and then hold on to it as much as I can to fuck up their accounting because unclaimed checks whacks their balances. When they phone to complain I call them palaeolithic morons & ask them to fucking wire the money already. I think my record is three months (I don't work exclusively for them). Nice people and fun job otherwise but gosh, why the checks, seriously.

Connect is cool, no ads, buy-me-a-coffee support

It features powerful filters that allows me to stay away from current usa politics (by keywords) and from websites I wouldn't consume content (by URL)

I find its layout more legible, be it overview or listing communities etc. Also features direct links to overall instances, ability to switch accounts or browse other instances as guest

Dev is open to requests / suggestions (and bug reports) in c/lemmyconnect, tho their availability is spotty

Still a pretty solid app, with these filters being the one feature I need IRL. Fuck trump, fuck x.com, etc etc.

I built an entire theatre using Linux. Architect was on autocad, that was alright, but engineering was on vectorworks & there I had to ask for .dxf exports.

Qlab (macos) is 100% a no-go, I actually own a macbook just for this piece of software.

Isadora runs on wine, but video play is problematic. Isadora is a video mapper/VJ/mixing software.

Of the big three of lighting console software, only Chamsys' MagicQ runs on Linux. Infuriating when you know Grand MA consoles are linux-based. ETC? Don't ask.

It's niche (how about Enttec or DMXKing interfaces configurator?) but it's my niche. I survive doing things differently, and, yes, owning a dual-boot AsahiLinux/MacOS device.

Theatre tech. Show up on time. Sometimes shows don't take late comers even with a bought ticket. And it's bothering everyone else, artists included.

If the venue has a bar, stay for a drink. Like everyone else, artists (and techs) love to have a drink after a hard day at the office.

DDG has it's non-track version online since a bit now. Use the !ai bang to get to it

Also you have the choice of Claude insted of ChatGPT, and your queries aren't harvested for further ai training

In any case, it's a completely different tab, it's not mingled in general search results

"Merde". As in, the french word for "shit" - or, should we say, "horseshit". Why? Well because at the time of horse-drawn carriages, a successful play at the theatre would leave a lot of horseshit in front if the theatre from the many, many coaches awaiting their fares.

For Women's Right Day, the android app store featured the lead of Security and Privacy of this very app. A lady BTW. Fuck me sideways how that was a ton of crap, retrospectively. She said in so many words the usual "privacy foremost" and other such obvious shit, then she also said "no selling ever".

I despair of humanity.

From the Road and Track article:

People clinked glasses of free champagne in outfits worth more than the market price of all the organs in my body. I stood there among them in a thrift-store blouse and shorts from Target.

Thanks for sharing the R&T link, it is indeed an excellent article. If her mandate was to report her experience, she nailed it absolutely.

(Talking about Lewis Hamilton):

It's reminiscent of the patronage system of precapitalist times, when rulers and nobles with endless riches paid musicians and composers to live in the palace with them.

A great read indeed. I guess some advertiser got angry. Mercedes? Red Bull? We'll never know.

Support the archive.org project if you can!

I use KISS. it's super minimalistic, allows fro hiding all the unremovable crap all phones come with today, and is basically a search bar with 5 icons on top. I have my Proton Calendar as the sole widget and that's it. Single screen, no fuss.
