(insert confused Carl meme with caption "you guys can get ahead??")

I feel you, I have been facing the same issue pretty much my whole life, the last 3 years I have been able to identify it and make some progress. I am not in a perfect state, not even a good one, but I am making progress and I am happy with it.

For me, the problem was trying to catch up. My pattern involved the following cycle:

  1. I would feel I am "behind" and the guilt would start to build up.
  2. The guilt would get so bad that I would start doing the things.
  3. As I was catching up, the guilt would decrease, and I would start feeling the exhaustion building up.
  4. I would try to power through until I would crash and go into a state of depression.
  5. Repeat from step 1.

In other words, I was exhausting myself while trying to catch-up, when I was finally ahead the guilt wouldn't be enough to motivate me anymore, and I would crash.

Changing my outlook helped a lot. Instead of trying to catch-up, now I am aiming for consistenxy. This is really hard, as it involves taking a break when I need to even if it means "getting behind". When I changed my outlook my productivity decreased considerably and it took a few months to get at an acceptable state. I tried to be patient, keeping records helped a lot as I was able to see the improve from one week to another.

Recognising my rest needs is really hard, I just don't feel it untill my brain goes absolutely numb. Keeping a journal has helped me analyze my behaviours and recognise my limits. I try to respect those limits by being proactive and schedule rest days before I crash.

Ultimately, this is my experience and yours may be different. Some general guidelines would be to try to take things one step at the time and rely on your journal because your memory is not a reliable source of information.

PS I fucking hate journaling, it's the worst things ever, and having to rely so much on it drives me crazy.

It sounds a bit too soon to use release names, especially given that Lemmy is still in alpha.

When a major release comes out, I suggest using colony names (fictional or real), like the pirate republic.

In general, I like names that highlight the decentralised aspect of the fediverse.

ALL OF THEM! NO COOKIE IS LEFT BEHIND!

My high score is around 4 packets in around 20 minutes.

That's why I stopped buying cookies...

I would say fuck to-do lists but I need them to remind me to hate on them... btw you may want to look into PDA.

good question, probably the transpiled code does not match the optimized js. Maybe, if they targeted the same js version as js version they are benchmarking, the results would be equivalent?

Also, if they are using a node version with ts support, it will compile the ts before execution which means they are measuring the impact of the compiler, which can be a lot for small snippets.

This question reminded me of the Dr Stone anime. The premise is that a wave turns everyone into marble, several thousands years later a young scientist is unfrozen and uses science to restore society to its former state.

Also, I wonder what the effects of long term exposure to EMP would be to life on earth. Since most neurological systems use electromagnetic waves maybe they are impacted?

Another interesting question would be if there would be a way to work around the EMP. For example, would a Faraday cage work to allow electronics to work inside it? Or maybe electronics are improved to work under the effect of EMP? Like how the CPUs have bit correction algorithms because of random bit flips that occur due to solar flares.

Last but not least, in such a situation my plan would be to go as far away as possible, since there will be food shortages, being in an area where you can forage for food or hunt animals would be a priority. Then, I would probably die eating something poisonous. If I survive long enough to set up a farm, I would probably survive the next 10 years or so until I die of old age at 35 the new average life expectancy.

A plugin system that allows for custom scoring methods is a good idea, IMO.

This would allow instance admins to install whatever plugins fit their users' needs. See how many instances are deploying multiple clients like default Lemmy, old Lemmy, alexandrite, and many more.

Arbitrary code execution is not safe, so it would probably require an admin permission to install plugins.

Some ideas for interesting scoring/sorting methods or feed generation in general:

  1. personalized AI scoring, most of us agree it's bad when a big corp controls AI, but maybe it's better if the user could fine tune it
  2. instance/community/other AI scoring, instead of super individualized scoring sometimes you may value the feedback of others including the communities you follow or your instance
  3. the explore feed that was recently suggested (or any another mixer), i.e. a mix of home, local and all based on factors the user can configure
  4. random
  5. Top/Hot/Active/New but only counting interactions from people you "trust" (i.e. you follow the same communities, or have at least X% compatibility) (again big corps bad, self hosting good)

Some of these services are not cheap to host, but the fediverse allows for multiple solutions to coexist. Some servers will charge for premium features, some servers will not provide them, some people will self host over engineered solutions, and big corps will show/sell ads and track user data (never forget big corps bad).

Highly disagree, if an instance is controlling the experience of a user, then that's a problem.

Each user should be making their own choice regarding using the all or local feed. That choice can be a net positive for the fediverse.

One could argue that even if the user makes the choice it's still a prisoner's dilemma. However, keep in mind that a user's interest does not (necessarily) match their instances, one could change instances or use multiple accounts across different instances.
