To be clear, you're not going to find many displays that can reach 4,000 nits yet. A lot of HDR content actually is mastered for 1,000 nits and that's considered kind of the target for the mid-high range OLEDs right now. My pretty much top of the line QD-OLED Samsung S95C maxes out at something like 1350 nits. A 1000 nit capable Steam Deck OLED has plenty of range in luminance for HDR to be effective there. And I'm sure it's got pretty good color reproduction which is the other big aspect of HDR.

One thing we haven't talked about is the possibility that the Steam Deck is enhancing SDR content with dynamic tone mapping to such a degree that it's difficult to tell the difference when you actually enable true HDR. I'd really have to see this with my own eyes to be able to say with more certainty what's going on.

Does your phone not turn off hotspot automatically when nothing is connected for a period of time?

He probably doesn't deserve a devil's advocate, but that said, I'm pretty sure Louis didn't masturbate in public, but rather during phone calls and in private in front of unconsenting or at least not explicitly consenting company, from the accounts I've read. I'm not defending it because it's abusive and wrong, but it's also not quite the same thing as masturbating in public.

The best work schedule I ever had was a Navy watch schedule that was 4x12', 3 days off, 3x 12', 4 days off before a switch to night schedule. Aside from switching from days to nights every 2 weeks, I absolutely loved it.

If people give me shit about my Android phone, I point out that their phone can fold exactly once before they'll need a new one. Android is still the only option for power users.

Oh come on now, that's not their sole goal in life...

They also want to make sure poor people don't get everything they need.

It's the leaning tower of cheeza!

On a serious note, that was probably not a great way to go and I feel bad for the family.

My problem with the test is that I'm not sure it's really testing what it purports to be testing. It says that it's testing your ability to discern misinformation from looking at titles, but I think what it's really testing is your ability to differentiate human written titles and AI generated titles. AI generated titles could be truthful and human written titles could be utter bullshit and without checking the credibility of the source or reading the article, you're not necessarily going to know which is which unless you already know something about the topic.

That said this is an interesting experiment that I predict will not have the same results when LLMs become more advanced.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it here, but how is continuing to sell these shoes not reinforcing Kanye's brand? I understand they're donating some revenue to a good cause, but the article also makes it sound like Adidas is still making a healthy profit off these shoes. This just reeks of corporate pandering and virtue signaling. If Adidas really wanted to make a difference, they could take what they need to cover their costs and donate substantially more than that $10 million.

That's cool if you like it, but I prefer text to be much higher contrast against the background than that. Color is meant to highlight and accent IMHO.

E2EE only exists up to the bridge, not the whole way to your client

I just want to clarify that most bridges can be set up to have E2EE between the Matrix client and the bridge (regardless of whether the bridge supports encrypted chats on the bridged service because not all do, e.g. Facebook), but it is true that the bridge itself has to decrypt and translate between Matrix and the 3rd party chat service, so as you mentioned trusting who hosts bridges or doing it yourself is really important.

Unless you have a pretty beefy server, you really do not want to try to process and store all the federation events and data from everything on all the big instances. I would recommend just using one of the Lemmy community indexing tools to search and discover communities across instances and only join ones you and your users are interested in.
