The title specifies that it's the apps that are open source.

Pedantic, but Google Messages' RCS. And it's all Google's fault because they are holding the API hostage, probably because they want to create familiarity with the app so that people don't switch once they finally open up.

It's amazing to me how much these companies spend on redesigns that add nothing but rounded corners one year, then sharp corners next year, and so on...

Capital i is same as non-capital L... So a horrible font for me.

Look... I certainly (particularly verbally) will probably use "he" a lot more than I should... And no one cares.

But if someone makes a PR changing these into "they", I would reply with "shit, you're right, this is objectively better, thanks for your work".

Instead, these contributors get their PR shut down with the most terrible, supremacist excuse. That's the problem. There's the true idiot.

But people wouldn't buy the newer chip because the previous one would still have support. THAT is why the source is closed. To sell support until the cow is milked enough and then sell a newer version.

Then publish on both!

I am worried that there is not really a benefit of doing that, just more noise and energy consumption.

There does not seem to exist like a single, complete solution for this that everyone agrees is the way to go... or maybe I did not look hard enough.

How do you do it?

My priorities are:

Top priority

  • Turn off

Amazing to have

  • Volume controls
  • Pause/play

Nice to have

  • monitoring state (on/off)

I saw that System Bridge exists, and looks almost perfect aside from the fact that is not even in the AUR (outdated) and is not distributed under Chocolatey in Windows... this makes me think that the project is very much not widely used at all.

So, how do you deal with these things?

I don't think this article is right.

Competition is good. The problem is uneducated buyers.

I could not recommend AnySoftKeyboard to my mum. I could recommend Florisboard, tho.

Openboard is virtually dead from what I can see. So that leaves Florisboard as the only open source alternative (that I know of) that could really be used by the masses. And the world would actually be a way better place if we all opensource freaks could install Florisboard on our family/friends phones and them barely noticing anything weird.

The problem is... no word suggestions yet. It's been years and we are still lacking what is almost an essential feature of a phone's keyboard.

I wish I could really work on it, but I lack the knowledge to do so; so I hope I am bringing some attention to the project.

Is there any other alternative I am unaware of?

How can I kill this evil thing?

This is probably not the place to do it but I figured it would be where I could find someone who fixed it.

I am slowly getting back into reading, and as a minimalist, I dislike the idea of having (or carrying) books, aside from very special ones, of course.

Is there a nice system to organize (maybe even sync) ebook information; and I mean not only bookmarking where you left, but actually notes, highlights, etc? I'd like it to be pretty "universal", so I don't depend on propietary stuff, and I can retrieve those notes 20 years from now (why else would I want to write some notes, right?).

Also, a bit off-topic for this sub, but... how do you read? E-readers? Tablets? Software choices?

If it gets 7 years of software updates it might be my next phone, although I hate the absurdly big size.

I'd buy an "iPhone Mini" Android right now if some company had the balls to do it.

Torrent software usually shows average data transfer of the last X seconds. Actually, everything that measures data speed is doing that.

It might be that your config has a relatively long average. Nothing to worry about.

Avoid Manjaro, if you plan on entering the ArchLinux space do it with EndeavourOS.

I would avoid Ubuntu, but that is more because I dislike their politics on snaps.

You are an entry-level IT pro, so, I'd suggest EndeavourOS for personal, Debian for work. Why? Simple, Debian is widely used in professional environments, nobody will look at you weird for using a "less professional" distro.

In terms of University work, you are saying you guys use Teams and Office, probably with a student license that would give you access to a full online Office experience through the browser, just use that.

In terms of gaming, things are looking pretty good nowadays, and with a more personal distro, such as EndeavourOS, you'll get the latest advancements in gaming.

Definitely try gestures.

Being able to "go back" from a gentle swipe at any height is a blessing for the small hand. The rest of options are really, really intuitive.

Unless you have some mobility issues, you'll never come back after a week.
